Our 1898 farm house still boasts it's original front door . . . which is cool and full of charm . . . but is also very skinny, drafty and rickety. We have had a nice side by side refrigerator sitting in our shop for the last three years, unable to fit through the door in the mean time have been using the worlds smallest refrigerator, which does not work well for a house filled with lots of "menfolk". But replacing the door is not really a simple task, as it involves enlarging the space, moving the light switch, adding a new header and adjusting for the thickness difference of a new door in 115 year old construction. So, taking a bit of my money made from being a vendor in The Farm Chicks, we have finally hired someone to install the new door . . . and tomorrow we finally get to have it done! WOO HOO! I will save the original door and make it into a cupboard, so that we can still pay homage to the years and years of welcoming it did so faithfully. And, we are very excited to have a door that will keep us toasty warm this winter as well!

Hugs & Blessings,

Brenda

I like the idea of repurposing the original door.
Some projects are just too much to tackle on your own. Someone with the knowledge and experience can make it happen so much faster. We "built" or rather started our house over 30 years ago and though it saved a lot of money but I still can't say its done-done. And now we are fixing things as well as finishing. I can imagine a door project like that involving days or maybe even weeks of "a hole in the house" until it actually gets completed.
Good plan!
