The beaty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
The figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes,
because that is the doorway to her heart,
The place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty is reflected in her soul.
It is in the caring she lovingly gives,
The passion that she shows.
The beauty of a woman...

Someone emailed this to me and I thought all of you would enjoy it.
It reminded me of a woman we know who ran a shelter from her home. We were dropping some things off to her and my son couldn't stop looking at her (he was about 4). When we left I asked "Z why were you staring at Miss Alice?" and his reply was,
"Because she was so beautiful Mom, she sparkled from the inside out".
(Miss Alice was about 75 at the time!)So to all of you... don't hide what true beauty you possess, sparkle and shine in your own unique and special way!

That is an amazing story! It just proves that sometimes kids seen more than we give them credit for!
I think it is also amazing to see what people consider "beautiful" over time what has been considered beautiful has changed so much. In some cultures even today- the fatter you are the more beautiful you are- and yet you look in fashion magazines and see these starved waifs looking at you. Or you look at runway models with crazy makup or ratted hair.
I am so glad to be me because my body never would conform to those runway models so I have felt a lot less pressure to try and conform to that image. I am content being short and somewhat fleshy :) |

| Bramble and Alee, thanks for your thoughtful posts. Style over substance is what passes for beauty nowadays. Gotta share this humorous anecdote involving me and my little sons. Back then, twenty years ago, divorced with two sons, 7 and 9 years old. I worked for a bank downtown, dressed to the nines, and I turned a few heads (maybe it was the red hair). Anyway, I ran into a mall after work to buy my perfume when a strolling waif....you know the type, cute, perky and hired to walk the floor with a sample bottle of something to get you to try and buy, stopped me and asked if I wanted to try this lotion. We chatted a moment and she said "You know you could be a model". Stunned and secretly delirious with this compliment, I bought my perfume and headed home. Recounting this to my sons, they looked stupefied instead of nodding their little heads in agreement. I asked "Don't you think mommy is pretty?" Jason, my 7 year old, shrugged his shoulders and said he thought so. Joshua, my sage, simply said "You're pretty, Mom, but let's face it. You're not what the public wants". What a great topic, its one of my favorite things to talk about. You know when your feeling really great & not at all different then any other age? Then you catch yourself in the mirror or car window and suddenly you realize....oh yeah, that is me. We have to embrace it, we must embrace it. You don't have a choice anyway its part of the cycle of life. Age isn't an enemy, it a GIFT & it's filled with wisdom, grace, love, compassion & strength. I think we all want to grow old gracefully but if our hearts are in the right place, then we will. I love older people and especially older women. I look at them and see such beauty and it doesnt matter if they have blue hair or no hair, they are beautiful. They lived before us, they did everything before us and they teach us so much. I hope & pray I can be worthy enough to be one of them someday.
