Today when I was tweezing my eyebrows, I realized that I have had the same pair of tweezers all my life. I got them some time in middle school, and I’m now fifty-four. I was so inspired by the fact that I have kept up with them all of these years and can still use them even with the tips being a bit offset, I wrote the following poem. Just thought I’d share to say I did.

Ode to My Eyebrow Tweezers

In seventh grade I met you.
My mother agreed ‘twas time
To take a pull at tweezing
These prolific brows of mine.

I followed the rules in magazines
And measured to a tee
The height and breadth and arc of each,
A beauty soon to be.

With ice in hand and nerves of steel
I plucked each stray away.
I never guessed that all that work
Would take me half the day.

And now the years have come and gone,
You’ve been mine through thick and thin.
You now pull hairs around my eyes,
My lips, my jaw, my chin.

I’ve learned to use you well, my friend,
For splinters and for knots.
I would not replace you if I could,
Despite the “shoulds” and “oughts.”

O, a trouble's a ton or a trouble's an ounce,
Or a trouble is what you make it!
And it isn't the fact that you're hurt that counts,
But only--how did you take it?

Very creative writing! Who knew that tweezers could inspire so! I don't know much about tweezers, with very blond eye brow that can hardly be seen!

I am so gratified that so many have taken the time to read and respond to this silly poem. Aren't we all so blessed to be cheered by the everyday things of life.

Carolj, what a hoot! and so true! Thank you for sharing! It would be fun to publish that one!

May I share it with my daughter (the beautician that always wants to wax my brows) and my grand daughters?

Oh, that is too cute and funny! So true about the hairs that we older gals now have to trim all over our faces.
What's up with that? Must be like the old men who go bald but have tons of hair in their ears&nose.*eewwww*
Plus they now have the wild-man brows. *heeheehee*

This is so cute. Amazing that you kept the same pair for so many years. I think you must have a knack for writing.

Thanks, Judy. I also have every pair of Barbie shoes I ever owned. I promise I'm not OCD. This is the one and only poem I've ever written. So glad you enjoyed it.

This poem is darling . . . I can relate as I wear my apron I made in the 7th grade Home-Ec all the time and still have a Mickey Mouse Nightshirt from that same era that gets worn more than any others. Sometimes the oldies really are the goodies! Your line about now pulling chin hais sadly rings true too! Thanks for the smile! I think this should make the pages of MaryJane's magazine!

Hugs & Blessings,

Brenda
