Linda, am thinking of you today. It's so tough, the "not knowing". I know you love Toby and that Toby feels the same--his life is a blessed one for finding you.

Well Toby will get his staples out this Saturday. The vet that did the surgery sent the findings to a cancer specialist. He wants me to take Toby to see her. He feels that would be better for Toby. I am going to call her today and see about setting of an appointment. He has a cancer called Spindle Sarcoma. This normally is a slower growing tumor but in Toby's case it was the opposite which has the vet stumped. So thats why we will be going to consult with the other specialist to see if its anywhere else in his body and what to do.We will do what she thinks is best.

But for now Toby has been taking his usual walk or should I say runs with his best girl Darla and covering about 2 miles on our farm.We try to take them everyday. He was so happy today when they spotted a squirel in the trees and they just plum wore themselves out running from tree to tree trying to keep it in their sites. They cooled off in the creek and now they are sleeping on their beds in the backroom of the house.

So thats the next step for now. I don't know when they can get us in but I am getting ready to call her now. Thanks everyone for thinking and praying for him. Its does a soul good to know there are so many animal lovers out there.

Glad Toby is enjoying his walks again. I hope you are able to get in to see Dr Harris soon, & that she has some beneficial info for you

My heart breaks for Toby and you. I had a Rottweiler that had cancer. We gave him chemo. He was so gentle and loving that
when he went for his treatments he would stick his arm out to get the IV. You will do what is best. As his Mom you will
make the best decision for him. He sounds like he isn't in distress. He's running all around and if he was in pain he
wouldn't be able to do that. Prayers for you both. They are our furbabies aren't they?

Linda,
My Rottie had IV and pills and never was sick until the day he died. That's hopeful isn't it? Both are in my
prayers. Hang in there and just love him like you said.

Just love him and love him. This medicine will help and he'll feel better until he won't. And that is what we all must prepare ourselves for. You're doing the best thing you can for Toby so please know that he knows that. And you know that, too. It's always so easy to worry if you "did enough"--know you are.
And, give Toby our love from the Bluegrass!

I know how you feel about your best friend. I lost my saluki mix that I had had for 15 years. I don't know what was wrong with her and the vet didn't either. She had lived long past the average time a dog of her type lives. Keep praying (and I will too) because I miss my Penny so very much.

Thanks Betty and so sorry for your loss of your Penny. She was a very pretty dog. She has a kind face in the picture.
Thanks Penny I hope you stay cancer free and well.

Its been 5 days since the surgery and Toby went for his walk yesterday and today. I was going to wait but this dog gets so depressed if he can't go for his daily walks through the hills on our farm with Darla. I have to make sure he doesn't run and hurt himself. But since he has been back to walking he is so happy again. He lives for this. He incision looks good and he seems to be healing well. So one day at a time is all we have and thats going to have to be enough for us all.

Thanks everyone once again for your prayers. They truly are appreciated each and everyone of them.

Our labrador retriever has the same kind of cancer. The whole name is soft tissue nerve sheath spindle cell sarcoma. His first surgery was the end of May and so far no signs of anything returning. The vet said it was a stage one and not likely to metastasize anywhere else in his body. He did not recommend any treatment like your dog had. We are closely watching the spot where the tumor was removed and feeling it every day. We are hopeful that it was caught soon and won't be back. Praying for you pup.

Mary my dog does have the same cancer. The surgeon didn't get clean margins the first time they did the surgery and it was back in less than 2 months. So we gave it one more go at it because we love him so. But the surgeon said it had threaded and fingered its way down between the muscles this time and he did the best he could to get it all.The vet never told me what stage his cancer was but it was probably not stage one. They took over 4 hours with the first surgery and over 5 with the second.
So it doesn't sound good but we gave it a try. I hope it doesn't come back but it won't suprise me if it does because of how fast it came back this time.
Sounds like your dog may do well and I hope your dog stays cancer free. I just keep hoping for Toby and its a wait and see thing which I am terrible at. Good luck with your pooch and prayers to you both.

We had to take him off the one pill because he started getting really sick from it. That med was called Proxycam. The other med is called Luekeran. That is the chemo med. We were told to stop that for 10 days until his surgical site has mostly healed and then to restart it.So right now he is only taking antibiotics and pain and inflamation pills. He swelled pretty bad with this surgery but its starting to look much better now. Most of the fluid and swelling has gone down. So he is on the mend. Thanks so much for asking and praying for me too.

Poor guy. Chemo was the worst thing I ever went through in my life. I feel for him. We can say how we feel but they can't. That's the part that gets me. Hang in there and keep us posted. Farmgirl Prayers!

Oh Linda I will keep Toby and the family in my thoughts and prayers. I know what it means to lose a furry kid. But the time you all spend with him now will be the most joyful. And he knows what love is.
