I saw Shaina and her family going to a baseball game tonight. It is a team that is made up of college age players from around the country.
She had curls so I think she might have had on a wig, but she was walking and smiling.

Hello everyone,
Shaina went into the hospital last Tuesday to prepare for a bone marrow transplant. Her sister K will be the donor. She will go in next week I think. K will be a senior in high school this year. She plays on the Varsity Basketball team

Hello everyone,
According to Shaina's mother's facebook page today is the day that her sister K gives the bone marrow to her. Shaina's immune system has been disabled.
Her mom said that the mail has not been forwarded yet and Shaina is sad she has received no mail. If you would like to send her mail at the hospital email me and I will send you her snail mail address.

Hello,
Shaina's mom wrote today that K had surgery for 4 1/2 hours to harvest plasma, bone marrow and blood. It will take the same amount of time to IV it into Shaina. K is tired and sore but a real trooper her mom says. Praying that Shaina feels better soon and heals.

Here are copies of posts that Shaina's mom put on her face book page from yesterday and today.Shaina's not feeling well her counts are all dropping and she's on a constant feed of morphine because she has sores in her throat (all of which the Doctors say is normal). The next 21 days for her are going to be the hardest. Right now she's sleeping a lot and isn't up for eating. I believe they plan to start giving her nutrition via her central line.
Kaylee is home and doing well. Still sore and has some nice bruising on her back. She's such a trooper.

Today Shaina received a bin of mail. THANKS A MILLION TO ALL THAT SENT HER A CARD OR PACKAGE. it was a much needed pick me up for her. Love you all The Hxxxxxx's:)

Hello,
This is a message that Shaina's mom posted on her Facebook page this morning.
We found out last night that Shaina has to have surgery today to have both her port & central lines removed because the blood cultures came back that she has a bacterial blood infection that is known for clinging to the plastic lines. Not sure what time her surgery will be. She's on a call list, which means they will call us as soon as they have a free operating room. We were told most likely between 9:30-1:00.

Shaina's mom said that three tests came back negative for bacteria so she was having an operation today to put the line back in.

Shaina's mom says the swelling in her face is getting less. In six days or so they will know if Kaylee's bone marrow has taken hold and growing in Shaina.

Last night was the first night she didn't throw up in the last 4 nights, but she threw up yesterday afternoon at least it wasn't both (like the day before). She's had 4 platelet transfusions since transplant. Today she's getting her first red blood cell transfusion (that takes 4 hrs). Overall she's doing good.

today is a good day. Shaina's Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC) is 290. Once its 500 thee days in a row we get discharged and will be staying at the Ronald McDonald house...it's still a far cry from home, but one step closer:) Keep up the good work Shaina.

as of August 12
Shaina update: her ANC dropped to 230:( Not sure how she will feel today. She's still sleeping.
Tuesday, August 13
Yesterday wasn't the best Shaina ended up get sick a couple of times yesterday & was very tired. They have been weaning her morphine, because her mucositis (mouth sores) are almost gone. Today her ANC is 250 (slightly up from yesterday). We are hoping today will be a better day. She's up & watching TV... Mostly waiting for her daddy to get here;)
Thursday, August 15
For those sending Shaina a card or care package it might be best to start using our home address (which has been forwarded to the Boston Ronald McDonald House). Jess(Shaina's Dad)is currently staying there & we are hoping to be out of the hospital in the next week or so (and it seems to take a long time for the mail to get to us at the hospital). Our home address is 699 Minister Brook Rd Worcester VT 05682. THANK YOU so much for sending things to Shaina.

From Saturday August 17
Today was a pretty good day. Shaina was able to be unhitched (from meds & nutrition) four a couple of hrs. Still trying to figure out the cause of her rash. ANC is 320...YEAH BABY! Keep it coming:)
Monday, August 19
Guess what today's ANC is......740. That's what I'm talking about. If things continue we should be at the Ronald McDonald house by this Thursday....YEAH BABY!!

Great news everyone! Shaina and her mom have joined her dad at the Ronald McDonald house. She has been sprung from the hospital. She still has an IV that her parents have been taught to manage. I think they need to stay near the hospital for a couple of more months.
