Hello! My name is Heather. I've been living on a beef cattle farm in rural Ohio for almost a year with my husband and cat. This year we are going to raise meat chickens and I am going to be starting my first, very own vegetable garden. I am interested in organic and sustainable living. I already have a lot of questions so, I figured this would be the place to start. I'm really looking forward to being a part of this group. I've been meaning to join for a long time after being a subscriber to MaryJanes Farm magazine.

Howdy, Heather! Welcome! I'm from the Northern Kentucky area and have been a MJF Farmgirl for many years.
You'll find a wealth of info here, but also just a great group of gals always willing to lend a hand or a shoulder.

Welcome Heather! I just joined MJF just a few days back. I'm so excited for you that you are going to get chickens! I have been reading a lot about different types of chickens and want some of my own (backyard egg layers) but haven't gotten any yet. I look forward to hearing about your experiences with them. I have a small vegie garden each year and love it! I have kept it small so I can manage it with my back restrictions (had back surgery some years back where half my spine was reconstructed) so gardening has been challenging, but I haven't given up yet. :) I have a feeling you are going to love having your own vegetables to harvest, put up, eat up and share. If you have questions, ask away. I'm sure there are plenty of people here to offer advise, ideas, and more. Do you still have snow out your way?

O, a trouble's a ton or a trouble's an ounce,
Or a trouble is what you make it!
And it isn't the fact that you're hurt that counts,
But only--how did you take it?

Hi Heather,
Hope this storm isn't headed East. We just got dumped on in the northern part of the state. Kind of late in the season for this much, but not the first time for sure and we are glad to get the water. Glad to have ya on here! Hope your day is going well.
Hugs,
Jo
