ok, so those of you who have in your stash of books, a "Sister's on the Fly" book,,, you have probably seen & made this salad...
(Sister's on the Fly by Irene Rawlings pg 98 )
But if you don't, here is the recipe...

note: bake the taters ahead of time, don't over bake. (al dente)
cut taters into 3/4 chunks
skewer
brush w/olive oil
sprinkle w/salt & pepper
place skewers on campfire grill
turn frequently till golden brown

remove from fire, toss with Chimichurri sauce & fennel
serve and enjoy!
Thank you Maryjane

Mmm....that sounds delicious! One of my photos did that the other day too. I tried to turn the file itself to see if that would fix it, but no...that one came out sideways too. :)

Photos will often contain extra information from the camera that tells how a camera was tilted when the picture was taken, and thus how a photo should be rotated when being viewed. Photo previewers and editors that know to read this info will auto-rotate the image for display when you're previewing it, but the original still remains oriented its original direction in truth.
So if uploaded directly to a site like ours, they'll probably display per that actual orientation.

I imagine that's what's happening with these images.
Maybe you know that can't be the case, given how you took the photo.

If the rotation metadata is the source of confusion, I'm actually surprised we don't see it more often. (I haven't had anyone point this problem out before on the chatroom.) If that isn't it, it'd be hard for me to guess the cause, since I don't know the arrangement any given one of you has for taking photos and saving them and so on (the camera, your computer, any programs you use, etc.).

Anyway, I've corrected the orientation on this image for you, katmom.

And it may be, too, clothedinscarlet, that the rotation metadata causes even more interesting problems when you think you've rotated an image, but the rotation metadata still exists in the file, giving potentially conflicting instructions about the image.

We also have problems while working on the magazine where Carol will place an image on the page, and everything looks hunky-dory. But then I go process the images to prepare their colors for printing, and the next time Carol opens the design file, that image is turned, and she has to fix it.
I can't remember off-hand what we determined was the cause of that problem.

Anyway, like I said, it's hard to know what might be going on without investigating your specific set-up.
