Hi everybody! I have a girlie day planned for tomarrow and I am on my way to gather supplies for the hankie apron . Does anyone have a suggestion on where to find vintage ones? I thought about the goodwill or other charity donation stores but I was wondering , for those of you who antigue shop, do they have linens in most shops? Also if I can't find vintage ones where else to look? We lost our "five and dime" here in my hometown a few years back. I sure miss it --could always find unsual things in there. Thanks for reading! |

In the antique shops around where I live they DO have linens and handkerchiefs - I think you have all the places down where I would think of checking - secondhand shops and such... I sure hope you found some in time for today's festivities!
Don't those handkerchief aprons look cute? I'd just love to see what you all come up with when you're finished - I think they'd be such cute "entertaining" aprons for the holiday season.
XOXO, Libbie

Libbie, I am just back from my great day! I left early and went to AC moore to pick up Homespun yarn as it was on sale there and low and behold they had the cutest hankies!! Not vintage and not quite as large as the ones in the mag but I think I will be able to make them work...am so exicited --I already have my first one pinned together! I am pretty much stumped when it comes to sending/posting pictures so I guess I will have to wait until "Mr"farmkitty (he will love that!!) can help me. Thanks for the info , when I have a little more time I'm gonna check some antique malls nearby. |

I just picked up some things to make one of these aprons and while I was looking around I found.... Linen napkins!!! I got a few and will work them into an apron and I'll let you know how it looks when I'm done. The napkins are usually larger than hankies, so I think it'll be great for those of us who also are larger! ~;} Faith |

I was looking at my apron magazine this AM and was thinking about making this very apron. However, I don't have quite enough hankies. But I do have lots of damask napkins that I got at an estate sale. And some of them are large so it could be plus size to fit me! A bandana would also be too cute!

Yes, I thought of bandanas, too! I love how one idea leads to 'sew' many others!!! I found a great old tablecloth at the thrift store yesterday and I bought it with the plan of cutting it apart...but I looked at it more and I love it and I will probably keep it as a tablecloth. It has beautiful pale blue embroidery and eyelet work on it. Now I just need to clear the perpetual clutter off my table so you can actually SEE the tablecloth!!! I completed the main part of my first one yesterday. It is made from 3 red satiny napkins and I sewed it together with white embroidery thread. I plan on embroidering some mistletoe at the corners and I will have a very cute Christmas hostess apron! I'm really excited about it. I will try to get a picture up when I finish. I'd love to see some of yours, too. TTFN Faith |
