Peggy is the ranch hairdresser. Chews the manes and tails off every horse she can get next to. She can have them gone in about 10 minutes. But other than that shes pretty nice and a good milker. Laura

Hahaha these are Saanen milk goats, they just have a thick winter coat cause I live in a cold climate. My horses look like this right now too. :) Laura

Oh, I just went off on a daydream tangent and thought of my wish for fiber goats. I don't think those girls in the photo look like they would want to give up any wool of their own...brrr. My horses have their teddy bear coats on too. They are gonna need them...looks like snow in the forecast!

Oh I see Paula. I just thought maybe they looked like angoras. I have had some part angoras and they do look very similar to saanens, especially in the winter. Some of the Navajo in our area crossbreed them and actually get hair and milk. The ones I've had in the past gave good milk but their bags were very soft and bulbous. They would give a good half or 3/4 gallon of good tasting milk but a strange looking bag. Definitely not something that would place in a show, lol, but served the purpose. They have the funniest crumpled droopy ears too, and skinny funny looking horns too. Out on the reservation one sees entire herds of these funny looking goats. I hope you get your fiber goats. My girls are recently getting into fiber crafts and a friend of our has a herd of wild llamas that she inherited from a renter. 14 of them. Anyway the plan is to shear them in the spring, hahaha we'll see how that goes. I guess if anyone can do it my girls can. Laura

I really had my heart set on cashmere goats, but thankfully passed on a very good opportunity to get some last year....with our weather, lack of feed and hay, the heat last summer...it would have been a real challenge to get them set up here and keep them healthy. From what I've studied, the angora goats have some more health risks than cashmere goats, which supposedly are very hardy. They are all really special though!!

I dont really know a lot about fiber goats but I had a nubian saanen cross that I had bought from the same lady that I bought the angora saanen cross goat from and she had an undercoat that would only grow at a certain time of the year and I was told that it was cashmere and that any breed of goat can have it. It was very soft and we would just pull it out easily. But like I said I really don't know much about it. Laura

Your girls are so pretty. The pic on the right looks like Peggy is smiling....mischieviously.....like she just chewed off one of those tails you were talking about.
