Here is the letter that I am sending to the editor of several area papers. I hope that if it was a true accident, that they will knock on my door and speak to my son directly.

"This letter is to the person(s) that hit an animal in front of our home of ****** and before ******, on the evening of December 19th, 2012. The noise of it carried into our home.

You didn’t hit a deer or raccoon. You hit our family dog and killed him. You also left behind your front license plate that was still attached to your front fender, which the sheriff now has.

Why did you not stop? Was it not an accident? We will never know since you drove off.

You should know that our son was out with the dogs when you hit and killed Gus. I had to witness my son cradling his lifeless dog’s body, while tears flowed from anger and grief. I had to witness my 16 year-old daughter screaming to the sky, hands into the air, expelling her pain. I had to watch the kids, come outside, one by one and bend over in pain and weep. Our entire household is grieving, and our hearts are heavy.

If it was an accident, you should have stopped. But you didn’t."

So sorry to hear about your beloved dog. I lost one this exact same way and it isn't a pleasant thing for anyone or family to go through. My thoughts and prayes are going out to you and your family. Give your son a big hug for me.
