My little Whitsunday has Ansley gland issues. It always seems to abscess and burst before she gives me any clue it is bothering her. Well, yesterday she went to the groomer. Everything seemed fine. She was just tired but that is usual. Then lest night her anal gland abcessed. I started her on the antibiotics from the bets office that I had left from the last incident. But usually they give me a pain med for her too. And I do not have any of that left.
I gave her some infants tylenol but reading online said it could be toxic. I am doing warm compresses. But she is still in pain. Also, after I washed the area, it looks like the abscess was directly on the little butthole. So that looks really torn up.
I am feeling so stressed right now. I don't know what to do for her. I can't afford an emergancy visit to the vet's office on the weekend.
Unfortunately, I dont know what you could do without seeing the vet. I would at least give them a call and ask what you can do until you can get her in on Monday.

Did the groomer empty the gland and maybe wasnt careful enough? If it is a place like petco or petsmart they might pay the bill for her to go to the vet. In the future it might be a good idea to not have them do that if that is what happened. I am saying this cause my daughter is a groomer and has worked for those places in the past. Laura
I specifcally told the groomer to be careful by her back end. My puppy is prone to this. I just feel so terrible that I don't have anything to relieve her pain.
She is feeling better today. I did get a baby aspirin in her last night.
I will be calling the vet to see if I can get some meds to have on hand for emergancy.
I forgot to say in my last post that sometimes when dogs are prone to this, the vet will remove the glands. I would ask them about this when you talk with them.

I had a black lab that had to have a gland removed from the back end. It really helped her and after there was no more trouble. Marly

Would a little witch hazel or preparation H help? Or is it not really just the swelling that is the problem, but an infection. Maybe some neosporin? I hope she is feeling better soon. Laura
She is feeling much better. I am keeping her on the antibiotics that ia had left from last time. She is starting to run around like a nut again.
When this happens she has to west little padded psnties to keep the blood from getting all over. She hates them. She lifts her deadens and walks around on her front paws. It is so hilarious! Amazing how well she gets around on her front feet.

Never ever give any animal acetaminophen. It kills either the liver or kidneys. That's also why it's use in very young children is not recommended. Consult your vet.
