Updates are at the end of the thread...

We could use prayers in regards to our finances right now.

We could use it. I really want this Christmas to be special. We've had very unpleasant Christmases for the last 6-7 years.

Oh Kristina, I am praying that things start looking up for you and your family. You are always such an inspiration to me.
We were fortunate enough to end up with a little extra cash by selling some things on Craigslist over the past few weeks, which will help with Christmas presents for the kids. They are at the age (12 and 14yrs old) where EVERYTHING they want costs a fortune. They are really the only ones that we "purchase" gifts for. Everyone else generally gets homemade items.
Going to email you privately with a suggestion.
Hugs,

~Laurie

It's frustrating that we now have 3 vehicles that don't drive and are broken down. All three need major parts and dh has such little time and cash to fix them all. The van has not been driven for a year or so (head gaskets or something), the truck has a major leak of some sort, and now my son's car isn't running (it needs to be junked asap anyway). On a good note, my son is car shopping and can replace his car, but has no job right now. And you we need cars if we get job interviews and hopefully good employment. It's not like we can ride a bike or walk from here.

On another good note, my son helped me open my very own Zazzle store to upload my own photography (for products). I am working on adding more items to the family farm store on-line, but so far, not one order since Farmer's Market. I think there are many people who are in the same "boat" this season.

The school told me the tour company gave us "good faith" to extend the due dates on our 8th grader's school trip. Thankfully.

On a different note, I will have my 18 yo daughter here, so that means more Christmas gifts needed.

Kristina~~ Have you thought about selling on ebay? Vintage tablecloths/linens, tea cups/saucers, and other sort of collectible things that are nice to have but could be sold for cash right now? If you look on ebay at what is currently selling, and set your price slightly under, you might be able to see stuff sell quickly using the 3 day auction limit and see what happens. Think about down sizing your stashes of goodies and see if you can get some results. I have done consistently well on ebay using volume and pricing my stuff to be very competitive. Unless you have a very expensive item, I have found that you can sell lots of stuff for very reasonable prices and make great cash. Also, if you have any old silver, you can contact Gold Buyers in Manhattan NY and they pay for you to ship it up there and give you about 50% of the market price that day for silver on the market. I sent up a box of old candle sticks and stuff and made $111 that day selling stuff I had not used in years. Gold Buyers will either mail you a check or deposit in your paypal account. I have done it both ways and it is immediate. You can find their site by looking online. They pay for you to ship Fed Ex overnight so you get a price by close of business the next day. What you don't sell, they will return to you at no cost. For ebay, you can order priority mail boxes for free on line and they deliver them to your door. When you post on ebay, you know the shipping cost and the buyer pays. You can print out your labels to ship from ebay and get great rates as well. You can even contact the USPS to pick up at your house if you don't have a car to drive. I use this system all the time and I can tell you it works every time to my advantage. Maybe this will help you get some quick cash over the next two weeks and then you can be able to do more this Christmas without ever leaving your home! Good Luck!

Thank you Winnie. I have made one sale in my Zazzle store so far. I am looking into etsy and ebay as well. The thing is....is that I gave a lot away over summer.

I'm thinking about "farm sitting" too.

Here's the kicker....
Hubby worked the entire day on the van. It needed a computer. He paid a guy $40.00 who said he could do it for that (we knew him). That was many weeks ago. Anyway, between him and a family member they got the fan running on the van. Now...the battery needs replaced and we cannot afford it. So frustrating.

We jumped my son's car, but it won't stay running.

We are on our last bag of wood pellets.

I wanted to "gift" several farm girls here, but I only started gathering items for a few last summer, so I got behind.

We could use prayer warriors in a large way. I know we can be very resourceful in these situations, so please keep us in your prayers.

Well, just thinking on options that may be something to think about. 1.) I don't know what any of this is worth nowadays but you could scrap out one of the vehicles for parts and hopefully get enough money to get one of the others going. Always a thought, though its only a short term fix and leaves you with out that vehicle in the long run. 2.) Have you though of holiday pet sitting? it can bring in a bit of much needed cash, though you do have to be careful and make sure that all pets are up to date on shots and have a clean bill of health. 3.) Bartering skills or goods for what you need can help too. I think that Craigslist has a barter section and you can always try your local free news papers. I've bartered all manner of things. It's close to the holidays and people are always short on time and cash so that anything that they can barter is fairly attractive.

Often I think best and am at my most creative when up against a difficult situation and I know you can and will be too. ((hugs))

Blessings

Annika- I was just thinking the same strategy regarding the cars. Select the one car that is most promising and scrap the other two for parts of value of the steel. Then take that amount and use to properly fix one car. In the longrun, you save on car insurance with just one car and a car that is usable for the family. Speaking of scrap metal, is there other scrap metal on the farm that could be sold just hanging out in those barns? Rusted scrap steel is sellable and not much use to you. Look around and see if there are old metal doors or such for scrap. Between the cars and that you might end up with several hundred dollars. Great idea for Kristina , Annika!

Kristina,

Prayers going up to ask for a financial blessing, so that you may be able to repair your car. Hang tight, God will work something out for you. He knows your needs better than you do. Trust him.

Love and Blessings,

We will be scrapping one soon, but need the battery first for the van. You see, the car needing junked belongs to my son. He needs a new one and a job. The money from the junked car, goes to my son, not to us.

Two of our pets need the vet badly, and we don't have the cash for that. My son volunteered to use his savings to take one of the dogs first. His paw was bleeding all over my bed last night. About a month ago, he stepped on something outside, while we were all out working on splitting wood and stacking. We've tried to using a drawing salve, but his paw is swollen and very sore.

My son needs employment too, or he won't have anything left soon. I am, however, thankful that he's taking the dog to the vet. We still have a cat that needs to go too, in addition to a barn cat.

We have a barn cat that may have gangrene on his tail - getting worse every day. He will die soon if we can't get the humane society to take him or get him to our vet. This is one that came to our home on his own a few months back.

Thank you for all your prayers. Our family appreciates it.

Unfortunately, most seasonal help has already been hired around here, and most farms can't afford holiday vacations, so farm sitting is difficult to find too. There are already folks who are doing this sort of thing in our area as well.

I did find a horse calender for my 18 yo daughter at the dollar store. However, now she tells me she is selling her horse. I wish we had a way to fence it here, as I know who much that horse means to her.....just frustrating with it all.

In desperation, my son and I entered a $5,000 cash giveaway with a local radio station. You never know.

Hi Kristina,
I sent you an email regarding some wash cloths on your oops site. anyway maybe you can barter in your area for your wood pellets, like some of your crocheting for pellets.
Also I have had friends that have taken metal in but also stripped things for the copper and taken that in to be sold and did pretty will with that also.
I will keep praying on this but let me know about the wash cloths.
blessings to you

Thank you Darlene. I am thrilled that you visited my store and made a purchase.

Hubby got some over time this weekend and is heading to work 2nd shift today (Sunday).

I am crocheting most of my gifts this year, and hope to be able to buy more sugar to make jelly to gift too. Thankfully, I have the yarn already too.

We got the truck towed away yesterday (with the help of family), and hope to get it fixed soon. We are not certain yet on the repair costs.

I do thank you all for keeping us in your prayers. God is already blessing us.

The school called me and told me that the class trip committee received a cash donation, and the committee chose my 8th grade daughter to receive it. I was so happy to hear this. We now only owe a balance of $100.00 for her, plus the cost of my 5th grade dd's class trip. Phew!

I have a few more "pay it forward" gifts to mail out this season, so I am praying I can mail them prior to Christmas.

Quick update:

First, I am very thankful for the prayers and kind words of encouragement.

Second, four wonderful farmgirls placed orders from our farm store. Thank you very much!!

And Third, dh's paycheck finally arrived late yesterday. We haven't had a paycheck for 3 weeks, so bills are very late, but they will be getting paid tomorrow.
