First an introduction is in order. My name is Tina, and who am I? Well im just a girl from a small town who just happens to likes different things. One of those things happens to be a love of animation. Yes that means cartoons . Anime to be precise. So i take this trip to a Otakon (a cartoon convention)in Baltimore Maryland every couple of years. Its one of our guilty pleasures.People come from all over to dress up and celebrate our love of animation. It was the first day of our con.(july of this year) when i bumped into him on the sidewalk. His name was Bryan. He was new to this con. He had never been to Otakon before. so my friends and his all walked down the street until we reached the doors. we wished each other luck and fun, then we parted ways. Every night they hold a dance for all the con goers. oh how i love to dance. my friends and I are dancing for about 20 minutes when we bump into Bryan again. He couldn't find his friends, and so asked if we minded if he joined our group. No of course not, were nice welcoming people. We shared a couple of smiles and coy glances. This boy could dance. i think that was one of the things that drew me to him. night goes on and we get tired, we say goodnight. the following day we had fun and had lots of adventures. We didnt see him, no big we werent looking. We go to the dance again. One of my friend starts to get sick,I offer to walk her back. This was my 3rd year going to the convention and this her first. so even though she was taller and probably alot stronger than me i escorted her back to the hotel. im small and its the middle of the city, not the safest place to walk alone. I was just outside our hotel when i saw him standing on the corner talking to his friends. I yelled his name but he did not hear me. I remembered he told us that he was a Marine. So of course i deepened my pitch and used my best lunch lady voice and let out a big old call "MARINE". I got his attention he smiled and i ran on over. He introduced me to his friends and asked me to a party. Keep in mind i just met this boy, i didnt know him or how trust worthy he was.I have never ever in my life just gone with a person that i didnt know. It was foolish and daring. The summer night was warm and i was feeling good from dancing. I mulled it over in my brain, im a practical girl who doesnt take risks like that. But i took a risk, and it was well worth it. Not only was he a gentleman, he was funny. i kept in tabs via cell phone with my bestfriend letting her know exactly where i was. i wasnt exactly 100% foolish. We were there for a short time before we decided to do back to the dance. we danced all night. My best friend Jillian,Bryan, and I. We danced till 3:am. annd we were still pumped with energy. This was our vacation we were bound to let loose. so we three went to the pier. Where Bryan and I got to talk privatly. Really talking. We strolled among fountains and watched a small duck. The early morning wove us a romantic air.Time passed quickly for us. We talked till 5:00 am. All night! i couldnt believe it. he had to fly home in an hour so unfortunatly we knew we had to part. We walked together hand in hand all the way back to the hotel. Like a real gentleman he walked me to my door and left me with a chaste kiss on the forehead. that was it I was compleatly head over heels. We exchanged numbers. We talked close to everyday for months. It felt doomed. He lived in New Hampshire and I in Pennsylvannia. But each time we talked it was special. Soon we visited. Now im making a brave leap of faith. Im leaving everything. My dogs, livestock, just for that boy with the charming smile and wonderful dance moves. Wish me luck.

okay I will :).

By now my marine and I are talking almost everyday. It feels more like a dream than life. Around early October i went to my computer to see if Bryan was on. To my joy he was. We were about an hour into our conversation when he said. "i need to ask you something." and of course those words have the power to make you worry a little.I fretted a bit. Wondering why the little pencil on the bottom of the instant message was taking so long. He said it like this, not an exact quote. " so by now you must know that I think your an amazing girl. You are very special to me, and I would not want any other girl on my arm.(<---i was starting to get happy nervous when i read this) Would you do me the honor of attending the Marine Core ball with me?" When i finished reading it I could not stop giggling and laughing out loud. i laid back on the couch and let out a very loud, very girl squeal, my feet kicking up in the air like one of the actresses in the movies. It just came out, it was one of those uncontainable moments. Naturally my fit of uber happiness took up a bout a full minute, and Bryan was starting to get nervous on the other line. I quickly typed in yes,YES, Yes! Then flood his im with questions. "what kind of ball? cocktail, big fancy dresses ball? when is it?....ect." I was so excited, in this day and age what are the chances that someone is going to get asked to a ball?( i thought they were almost extinct.)It was perfect, I already had a dress and the shoes. I needn't go out for anything. I put in my vacation days at work, and asked my trucker friend if he was going up there around november 10th. He was, so asked him to be my pumpkin coach. The days crept by and I made plans with his friend and neighbor's wife. She would help me out with what she could. when i got to New Hampshire we spirited the dress up to the third floor. Oh no i was not letting him see it until i was wearing it. the following day was the ball. His friends wife made us breakfast (shes awesome)and we kicked the boys out and started to get ready. I took a shower, did my eyebrows, and when i got out Meredith started on my hair. the boys called and told us we had less time than we planned to get ready. 45 minutes to get ready. that was it. Meredith was having trouble with my hair, so i worked with what was done. She laced up my dress and i finished my hair. We were done. Not perfect, but i was still planning on knocking his socks off. We were going to meet him at his parents house, this was the first time I was going to meet his parents. So this felt like prom all over again, Except i did my makeup in the car.Arrival. He was waiting outside but couldn't see me clearly i smiled becuse i could see him cramming his neck to try to see me. Meredith opened the door and i stepped out. I saw his eyes open wide, and his lips make an OH sound. it looked like I knocked his breath right out of him(which made me very smug). His hand extended snaking out to grasp mine." wow" was all he said . Hand in hand we walked up the steps to his parents house. I could hear his mom's voice from the door way. She sounded excited. We all greeted each other and they both exclaimed about what a handsome couple we made. It was a good meeting, i couldn't wait to have a real sit down conversation with them. I liked them. Pictures were taken.

We went to the ball. So many Marines. I wanted to thank them all for putting their lives on the line just for me, for us. The ball was elegant the food was delicious. Everything was beautiful. Then the dancing happened. It was fun. we danced along side corporals and generals. I even danced with a sweet little girl a General Brigantines daughter. (gulp) I didnt know that, or else I might have been nervous. I believe she had fun. we ended our night with a slow dance and a kiss. All together i was breathless i felt like Cinderella except I didnt have to run out on my prince after midnight.

Oh Tina, what a wonderful, fabulous story. I can feel your passion and it puts a smile on my face. I am wishing you get love and great joy. Believe the magic. I think you just know when it is right.
My DH and I have a romance story courtship. He waited almost 20 years for me and says he knew day 1 that I was the one for him. It also played out as a fairy tale, and we've been married now for 18 years and it is still the best.
I am soooooo happy for you and your Marine. Happy move. Happy 2013. Keep us posted. Joey

OK. Some of the farmgirls know this but for those that don't...
I met Rod and John in 1974 when they were both in the Navy but not on the same ship. I volunteered with the USO show troop and we all met at the USO in Philadelphia. John and Rod did not like each other. Rod had gotten married 1 month before he met me. Had he been single I would probably have married him then but since he was already married, we just became good friends. I married John and we moved to Virginia. Rod got out of the Navy and went home to New York and his wife. We did not keep in touch.
My marriage to John was a terrible thing (except that I did get my amazing daughter) and I divorced him years later, swearing that I would never get married again. I loved my job, put myself thru college, raised my daughter and loved my life. I dated some but never enough to EVER consider marriage.
When my DD was a Junior in High School, I got a phone call out of the blue from Rod. He was living in Florida, had been divorced from his 2nd wife for almost a year and said he couldn't stop thinking about me. The next thing I knew, the producer from the Montel Williams TV talk show was on the phone wanting me to come to New York City to be on the show when they "reunite lost loves." So the next day my DD, my Mom and my SIL go to NYC and Rod and I are reunited after almost 20 years of not seeing each other! It was amazing and he looked totally different than I remembered him but he was so cute.
The show aired in May 1994. We got engaged 7/1/1994. He moved from Florida to my house in Philly and we got married 9/24/1994 in Florida because his mother was too sick to travel. 7/1/1995 we had another whole completely different wedding at our church in Phila, so we celebrate both anniversaries. Rod says it makes up for all the years we got gipped out of.
I am still the love of his life. It is still a great marriage. We are still happy. He's a great guy. We are still great friends. We are very, very different people but we go together well.I felt Gods hand all over this from the beginning and couldn't be happier.
So that's why I say believe in the magic. SOmetimes it just happens and you know..you just know. Joey

Oh I love this, I have to look for this episode. I am a sucker for a romance story. I may not show it but after you read so many books you kinda find your men lacking. I believe the romance novels have ruined our ideals; but then I think, why cant we have it all, why not shoot for the stars and the moon. Why do we even belittle ourselves by settling. We are goddesses and we deserve someone who will makes us feel like one. Now don't get me wrong they don't have to bow and throw flowery phrases at us, just make us feel important and special. Joey im so happy you found someone that can make you feel like that. You must have had him popping into your head every once in awhile. Kinda like one of those" blink spiders" (my own coined phrase. spider on the wall, blink, look again spider is no longer there. then you just mull it over. where, where, where. that's a blink spider.)It must have been maddening. Now im gonna see if i can find the video. You should post the link if you could find it.

Hi Tina,

I haven't logged on as often as usual the last two weeks, and your post is the first one I see. Boy...I was hooked on your story from the beginning. I love that there are still sweet gentlemen like Bryan. Sounds like a nice boy. I love the picture of you two...your dress is beautiful and you look so sweet and vintage...stunning!! And of course, Bryan is so handsome in his uniform.

I, like Joey, have a romantic tale, too. I met my husband Kim when I was very young, and ended taking a leap of faith, moving across country from Texas to Pennsylvania, (he moved here from Denmark for me) and finally settling here in Connecticut. Well, guess what...in September we celebrated our twentieth wedding anniversary! Now, I don't want to push ya too far ahead, but I'm just sayin' that often when we KNOW we KNOW, and I knew my dh was the one for me. I wrote a blog about how we met, back in September on our twentieth anniversary, if you are interested in reading it, here it is:
http://sfgblog.maryjanesfarm.org/default.asp?Display=88

Oh, and I am blessed to call farmsister Joey one of my friends, and I got to meet Joey and Rod last Fall in person...let me just say they are the cutest, sweetest couple!!

So, keep us posted. I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world.

Big hugs!
Nicole

Thanks Nicole, we certainly enjoyed meeting youand Kim and Audrey too. What a fun day that was!
I agree with Nicole..be good friends. There certainly have been a few days when Rod was certainly not my favorite person. On those days I remember that we are good friends and I treat hom like a friend instead of the husband who has made me mad. We work it out.
We also have very different interests. We have a few we share and many we don't but we are supportive of and interested in each others activities. It gives us something new to talk about at the dinner table. I will never golf or fish but he really enjoys it. It makes him happy and that makes me happy. I always love to hear about "the big one that got away."
Please keep us posted on how this all goes for you. We're rooting for you and your handsome Marine. Joey

Thank you for the advice Nicole, and Joey. I'll keep that all in mind. Bryan likes to talk about guns, he works at a gun range in the mean time. He gets so excited when he talks of guns and being a marine, and his face gets all animated. I have a limited knowledge of firearms, but i can tell hes passionate about what he does. I can sit there for hours while hes talking about it and just listen. His excitement is contagious. Even though i haven't grasped about one third of what hes saying, i cant help but smile. I've only seen him agitated once ( a car pulled out in front of us all the sudden) and he was pretty amazing. I'll tell you the truth I expected cussing and loud angry noises. because in my experiences that's what happened in the past. But he just took a deep breath and I kind of held my breath waiting for an explosion, and all that happened was like a minute of silence. after that minute was over he looked over at me and smiled and said " im better now". I was so shocked and a bit uneasy. He had such a mild temper I was amazed. No temper tantrums thank heavens!
Well Kathy that's all that has happened as of yet. My last day of work is the 21st of this January. and then i move on the 28- 29th. so I most certainly hope that I haven't hit the best part. I feel like there will be more. lets cross are fingers.

So now its been a few days in my new apt. in N.h.. I miss the farm most terribly, and everyone in it. I knew this when i decided to take the chance. That doesn't make it any easier. Bryan is accommodating and warm. I know I'm home sick. I'm hoping i find a job soon so that I can take my mind off of moping. My imagination races across the snow covered yard back home, and into the barn that i had built. It races across the open spaces where i know the creek still flows, and my mountains still stand. To the smell of hay, and horse, To the friendly noises of chickens and the loud laughter of the blue jays. I miss home.
