I'm hoping someone can help me out. I just bought a 1914 Singer treadle Red Eye off Craig's list for seventy bucks. It is in great condition.
I brought it home and was oiling it up (because I can't wait to use it!). The slide plate over the bobin was kind of sticky so I was messing with it.
My question is, is there supposed to be some sort of a spring under the slide plate? Before it was very hard to move, and now there is nothing to hold it in place. I think some sort of a sprng mechanism popped off when I was messing with the cover.
Does anyone know?

NEVERMIND! Thankfully, after much searching, I found the picture here on this site.

Very clever! It works like a charm.
The article itself is interesting, too.

How is your treadle coming? I have three treadles that I love to sew on. It's SO therapeutic!I had five treadles at one time, but after all, how many does one girl need? I sold one and donated one to the church garage sale. I got started using a treadle when I bought one on sale at a flea market. It was all frozen up and wouldn't turn at all. I worked onit and got it running. now I use my treadles more than my new machine!

I have one, but it is in storage at my parent's house. I would love to get it and use it; hmmm maybe I will do that soon. I think it would be so nice to sew so simply. Cathy
