I am curious to find out where you all set your heat to at night? Since my daughter and granddaughter moved in, at night I have been setting the temp at 63, but if it were up to me I'd have it set at 58-60. During the day I have it at 66-68. Am I crazy or just hormonal?

I turn my heat off at night since I have a heated mattress pad. I keep that turned down to a 1 or 2 (out 10) and put another layer of blankets on. This morning when I got up the house was at 54. I just turned on the heat and I have been up for over an hour. During the day I have the house set at 68 when I am home.

I have to have my set no lower than 70 at night or I end up having a headcold and that's no fun. During the day I turn it down to about 65 (some days I turn it right off) because I am moving around and also because I am cooking.

I have circulatory issues so I turn it down to 60-ish at night when I'm under my warm quilts and up to 68 in the day or my hands and feet go numb even though I wear fingerless gloves around.

I keep our thermostat set at about 61-62 degrees all the time. We have birds so we have to avoid temperature fluctuations. Our compromise was to keep the temperature setting in the lower middle and adapt to it. Our heating bill actually went down by doing this compared to our old habit of 68 daytime/55 night time.

What good ecological ladies you all are. My house is set a 70°F during the day and 67°F at night. I also have a heated mattress pad, but it doesn't do a good job of keeping my feet warm. Sometimes during the day I turn it up to 72°F, but as soon as it reaches temp. I reset it to 70°F. I just want to be warm in my old age.

I read somewhere that setting your thermostat to low is not a good thing. Something about using up energy getting it up there from too low of temperature. My house is cold--was use to have gas heat now mainly with wood and electric baseboards which I turn on in the room I'm in and then shut off. I am never cold in bed. A good down comforter is the answer--sometimes I get so warm I throw it off for awhile.

1 or 2 logs in the wood stove every other night or so, and we use a heated blanket on our bed. The house ranges from 50 to 80 depending on who's running the stove or if it's running at all. Leaving for the day makes coming home a drag! Winters are best spent at home :)

Sharon,
It was interesting to read all the different posts from around the country.
I think that the weather in those areas is a lot different than the
weather we have in the east.
I keep my thermostat set at 65-68 during the winter. If my kids complain
about the lack of heat, I point out in winter, we wear long pants and long
sleeves, not shorts and T-shirts!
I hope this helps.
Happy Trails,

Jenne

We set our thermostat at 62 for nighttime and 65 for daytime, but we also have a wood stove, so that the temps can go as high as 70 in the daytime. We also use a bed warmer at night.

In deep winter it's usually set around 70.
Our apt complex put in new energy efficient windows and new ac/heating units as well.
So I don't think we may even need the heat on as much this winter? We will see.

We try 60 degrees at night but have a space heater in our 2 year olds room. During the day it is 66-68 when we as home and 62 when we aren't. I have heard that the big warm up may take more energy than actually keeping our house warm everyday so I am not sure if I am doing right or not.

We have wood heat so we can't regulate our heat.
I know I sleep best if it is less than 67 degrees.

When we use our LP we keep it at 64 and 67 during day.
I read that it if it turned down at night it can make a difference.
Just has to be turned down for several hours.
If you are leaving the house for the day as well, but maybe not for a couple of hours.

I keep the(electric) heat thermostat at 60 day and night in winter. We use a heated mattress pad and lots of quilts. We use space heaters in our tiny bathrooms when we shower. If we are home during the day and it gets cold, we shut the back of the house and use a propane gas heater to heat the living room & kitchen. Sweaters, knit caps, and blankets are also good. I really like wool sweaters and look for them at the thrift shops.

I only have my heat on for couple of hours in the morning and evening - its off at night - the house seems to hold the heat and just needs topping up couple of times a day.

64. Our house is a tiny cottage, so anything above that is just hot. Also, we have polartec sheets on our bed, a cotton blanket and a down duvet. I would sweat to death if the heat was higher, and always sleep better (and breathe better) in a cool room.

we set ours at 62 when we leave the house, and whoever gets home first adjusts it to 66-68. we have a wood stove, as well, and if it is going, the furnace seldom comes on and it can get really warm. at night, it goes down to 62 also, lots of quilts :-)

63 at nite and during the day when we are at work. I have Parrots and need to keep them somewhat warm or I'd have it even lower than that. I zone heat when we are at home using our pellet stove, which keeps the whole place reasonable, and an infared heater for the main living area when not using the stove.
We use a lot of blankets and quilts too.

63 at night. Anywhere between 63 and 65 during the day. I have a very well insulated house. My landlord pays for part of the heating bill, so I'm trying to keep it to where I don't have to pay anything. We'll see how it works. I've been here only a week and a half.

We heat with a wood stove and out it goes at night. When it gets real cold we can bank the hot embers and hopefully it will last all night. I stay very warm at night--one sheet and blanket. Been that way forever. MB
