I am on the hunt for a purse that will not pull down on my shoulder, yet be something I can sling on my shoulder. I like to be hands free when I have it with me.

I tried looking on the web but didn't really find anything. Can anyone recommend a purse that won't strain my neck (injured in a bad accident 12 years ago) or back?

Thanks,
Dawn in IL

My mom has thoracic outlet syndrome, and she just so happens to be an Ergonomist. She uses this purse: http://www.ameribag.com/classic-healthy-back-bag/

My daughter and I also carry the Ameribag and have for several years now. My daughter has scoliosis and this bag was recommended to ease discomfort for the back. We both really like the bag. She carries an extra small as she is very short-waisted and I carry a small or a medium. I also have an extra large that I use for an overnight bag.
They are rather expensive so I watch Sierra Trading Post or ebay when we need a new one.

Thank you Natalie and Kathy for your suggestions. I discovered there is a store by me who sells them. I want to try one out before buying.

Have a superb day and thanks again for your help!

I hope it works well for you, Dawn! Finding a good purse can be frustrating to say the least.

I love purses like that! I've never felt comfortable with a regular purse. I like to sling it over my shoulder and across my body. I found 1 in the luggage dept. at Target that I loved. Now I found a crossbody from Kohls. I may have to look into these. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Deb for letting me know about the crossbody at Kohl's. I will take a look there to see if I can find one. I did go to the "Relax the Back" store in Naperville by my house and got a expensive pillow from them yesterday. They used to carry the crossbody purses there, but no longer keep them in the store. The pillow was worth the $ since I got a terrific night sleep and have no neck pain this morning!

Thank you all for sharing. I'm still on the hunt to find a purse that won't hurt my neck & shoulders!

Has anyone found a pattern for these purses and/or made one? I would love to make one that won't burden my back or shoulders.

Thanks this is a great topic.
