01/31/13: on page 3 in my post from today are a couple new pics of Siobhan and Siete.

Our Longhorn heifer named "Snowflake" gave birth to a sweet little heifer calf yesterday, the 22nd. My hubby named her "Siobhan" (pronounced "shah-von") . . it's an Irish name.

I think she is just the cutest little thing, with perky "freckles".
Mostly white but with some of typical Longhorn reddish markings.

"Freckles" on her ears, around her eyes and on her nose

Tickles me to see the freckles on the backs of her ears too!

And with mom, Snowflake. And, YES, one must be VERY watchful of mom and her horns. She's pretty mild mannered, but you do NOT want to have a close encounter with those horns.

Thanks for letting me share!

I was able to pet her yesterday afternoon as she was laying by the fence on the other side. Momma did her little "momma moo" thing at me and kept a close eye on baby. I was also able to pet Snowflake's nose . . through the fence. I still kept an eye on her horns, because she could turn her head and poke the tip through the fence.

Today I was in the pasture with them all and just walked up to the baby. Momma "spoke" to me and I, again, kept a close eye on her but she actually turned her back on me. I was able to start petting baby again . . . YAY!!!

I also noticed that those horns make a handy back scratcher as Snowflake swung her head around to use the point to scratch her back between her hip bones . . . handy!

Thanks for enjoying!

What a lil sweetie! I love the picture of her and momma. Mommas a beautiful girl, too. I can see why you raise long horns. Might have to watch out for those horns, but they are magnificent creatures!

Thanks girls! Longhorns are fascinating creatures. They each have their own distinctive markings and their horns are a bit unique to each one as well.
Debbie and Marilyn were able to visit our Longhorns this last spring, just after the last bull calf, Peyrone, was born. (He's a steer now)
It's fun to go see the new ones and watch then grow.
Siobhan is not wasting any time and making her presence known and strutting her stuff!
Thanks again!
