I need a fabulous gift for a Bride's shower. They are one of the only couples that have not had their own house before marriage so I thought a good Vat of kitchen tools would be a good gift.

Mine is a melon baller, I use it for lots of things.

What off the wall thing can you not live without?

Wooden spoons, in many different sizes and shapes. I use them for almost anything on the stove

Hey Diana!
I saw this on HSN & thought it was cute, but couldn't justify spending the cash as I already have most of the items in there. I Like the handy way it rolls up in a bag http://www.hsn.com/kitchen-dining/wolfgang-puck-10-piece-garnishing-set-with-color-accessory-bag_p-6554725_xp.aspx
Comes in various colors too!

Oh I should add a GOOD can opener. We finally found one that holds up from a kitchen store. (zyliss)
We were replacing ours every few months. This one has held up for over a year now even using it on number ten cans.

Phyliss!! Me, too!!! I will not make a roux unless I have my wooden spoon.
I also love my can opener.

Yeah, a good can opener is essential. And stainless steel mixing bowls. Great for mixing anything liquid. Also a colander.

Those 4"x4" rubber grippers to open jars. Alao great when canning to close those lids tight! I need a new one; I use it so much that it's falling apart.

Fine mesh strainers. I have collanders, and then I have strainers in ALL kinds of sizes, including one small enough to fit over a mug. They come in handy for almost every single thing.

Wooden spoons and a heavy old fashion spatula. Oh, and several medium sized metal spoons that can be used for stirring or serving and a soup ladle (which I also use for canning).

I love my Pyrex slotted turner. It's silicon and so great for everything from stir fry to eggs to pancakes! It came in a set, but we ordered extras separately :)

Definitely a rolling pin and sifter, wooden spoons, a set of stainless bowls AND (at the risk of sounding self-serving!!) an Oklahoma Pastry Cloth™ that I couldn't do any bread, biscuits, pie crust or cookies without!! :-) (yes, I'm giggling)

- Nice high quality 8" chef knife
- Ball® Utensil Set for canning
- wooden scraper and wooden spoon
- Strainer
- Box grater
- Kitchen scale

Can openers are only useful if you cook with canned ingredients. I usually buy dry beans and I put up my own tomatoes. I can't remember the last time I opened a can with a can opener.

Michele, I forgot about that microplane grater. I use it almost daily for zest or in baking when I grate fresh nutmeg. It's the best thing ever.

A good knife set.

As for gadgets that I use regularly - food processor, sauce maker, measuring spoons and cups, glass mixing bowls, hand chopper, spoons and whisks, coffee pot , cutting boards, strainers, tea kettle, a good stainless steel 6 qt. pot.....
