Hi, I'm starting up the Beaver Dam Farmgirls....but if there are any other gals here in Wisconsin that want to join in with me (since I am just one at this point), I can change the name to something different  Let me know!!!
And, sign me up for a quilt square, what fun!

Hey Farmgirls I have started the "HOWDY YA'LL" chapter here in Texas and have actually received 2 farm girl kits so I would love to have more members. Have about 5 right now--all in the Fort Worth area.

How big should this quilt square be? We are starting to make the mail art ladies an offical global chapter. So I would like to join in on the quilt. I think I'll do something global.

Helen, How about a name like The Kiwi and Koru Chapter? Or The Two K's? Just some thoughts....

Hi Sister Farmgirls! I am having fun reading your posts on your Farmgirl Chapters. We have three members in ours here in East Central Alabama. We have chosen the VERY Southern name of
"Dixie Belles". The quilt squares sound great and we would love to participate. Please let us know about the dimensions.

Good thinking Meadowlark, I was also thinking along the koru theme. I think The Kiwi Koru chapter, would be a great name. kiwi being our national bird and koru meaning, new beginnings, since we are the first global chapter.
Ok ladies, that is the new zealand chapter name then, KiwiKoru's !!! Off to have a wine to celebrate ;)

Hi all - I have seen several questions about the chapter quilt squares....I believe I was the one who originally suggested this idea, as I did one for the diocese of our church. I recently saw the finished quilt hanging in the dining hall at Camp Weed, Fl, and it was awesome. So varied! So beautiful.
The squares we used were 22x22 inches. But, gals, this made a HUGE wall-hanging, floor to ceiling! There were over 50 churches that participated. You can imagine.
I know there are many fellow quilters out there, and I welcome opinions on individual square size. How about 12 by 12 inches, with 1/2 extra inch all round for salvage and sewing? Does this seem still too large? Does this seem feasible?
Another thought ....if logistically it becomes difficult to get all the chapter squares sewn together in one quilt (can we have a quilting bee?), each chapter could do an individual wall hanging representing their chapter that could travel with them as a banner.
I welcome thoughts and ideas on this!

So you want a 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 inch square? Do you want one square from each chapter?

Kay - Each individual design would measure 13 inches square BEFORE sewing all chapter designs together. One half inch extra would need to be left on all 4 sides.
Each chapter would design and sew a square that represents their chapter. No design guidelines necessary....just creativity within a 12 inch perameter!

Maybe we should plan for a week long gathering for 2006 July 4th Holiday, near/at MJF and/or at Moscow, ID, to get acquainted and to have a quilting bee!!!

Clare - that is a fantastic idea! Everyone could make their chapter squares and bring send them for the 2006 Farmgirl Chapter Quilting Bee!
Since I am completely a hand quilter, I cannot volunteer to be the one to put it together; besides it should be a group thing, and would really help us get to know one another.
Non-quilters who want to do a chapter square, do not fear! Using a white piece of muslin and decorating it in a way that fits your talents would be a great way to have a square in the quilt.
Please give more input as to whether or not the size being discussed is okay!

Farmgirls!!
No need to fret about being a chapter of one!!It was me, myself and i for a while then I recruited my mom and a couple quilting friends....Then I had a braincell explode!!I took my giftcards and a few bumper stickers plus one of the magazines put it all into the MJF bag,put on my MJF t-shirt busted out the ol cowgirl hat and headed over to my local county 4-H fair. I handed out cards to all the ladies who looked like they might be livin the life,...sheep goats chickens horses and cattle barns...then on to the county extension exhibit..talked to a master gardener gal...then on the the pioneer village people who were knitting and weaving. Then across the way to the oldergals at the milking stand.No one had heard of MJF...and about half looked at me like I was trying to sell them a dead rat ...but the other half seemed interested and excited. I was determined to meet some of my Farmgirl neighbors!!I even gave one to my UPS lady!Next week I am headed out to another county fair, this time in the next county over where I grew up. I am going to copy more of these cards just to have with me everyday...in case I run into a future MJF farmgirl!! You just never know where that might be! For example, I just met some of my fiance's cousins from california( who he had me maybe 30 years ago..) and they brought a daughter( who is interested in farmgirl stuff) and granddaughter ( who won a ribbon for her first quilt at age 9!!)connections are everywhere right under our noses!!
