Are cherry preserves & cherry jam the same thing? I have a cherry salsa recipe that calls for cherry preserves & I don't want to buy a jar from the store if it's the same thing as what I'm doing this morning. I'll post, too, on the Porch - I think there's a bit more traffic there lol. But I was just curious. Thanks ladies!

If you were canning, I'd tell you no they aren't. BUT for your purposes, substitute away! You'll have more whole cherry pieces in your finished product, like that's a bad thing. If you are concerned about texture, you can put your ingredients in a blender first. PS - I'd love to see your salsa recipe!

Thanks Ann! I wasn't really looking forward to buying a jar (no matter how small or cheap when I have them here) for 1/4 cup! Here's the link for the recipe - I haven't ever tried it before, just found it last Saturday. And I agree about the more cherry pieces! And about the only time I like "chunkies" is in salsa!

Maybe I want to add the link! lol http://forum.freshpreserving.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=47
