Nancy, I collect sea glass also. Here where I am in Florida there is none on the beach. When I go up to MA to see my husband's family I get out on the beach with a big bag and start gathering it up. I haven't seen any red or blue pieces in a long time. I used to get quite a bit of glass in Laguna Beach, CA when I lived there. Do you have much red or blue?

Hugs,

Nancy

My collection too, Nancy! I have a very small collection . . I live in Colorado! No ocean beaches here and I've never seen "sea glass" at any of our mountain lakes. Most of them don't even have much in the way of a "beach".
So, I can't help ya' out much! Good luck!

Oh, sorry Nancy Jo, I misread that. Nancy from Florida-I don't get much in Florida either, but I am in Mass. for the next 3 months and would love to know where to go up here to hunt for sea glass. If I can find some, I'll be glad to trade. Thanks, Joey

Joey, I have found a lot of the glass in New Bedford and Fairhaven. I think if you are anywhere around the Cape Cod area you can get it. New Bedford was a big whaling town at one time and there is a lot of fishing that goes on there.

Let us know if you find some while you are up in MA.

I love love LOVE sea glass, too! Growing up in Massachusetts and RI, I had gathered a wonderful collection over the years, but parted with it to pare down for the move to PA. :( Your collection - no matter how big or small - is a true treasure, Nancy! Sure brings back lots of memories!

Joey - also head to Marblehead or Salem... They are both on the North Shore of Boston. We have found sea glass while visiting at both places. In Salem, if you go to The Willows (it's an extremely small, old-fashioned amusement park with an antique carousel and arcade - nice little place to visit on a Sunday afternoon http://www.salemwillowspark.com/history.html ), follow the walk all the way to the end, past the buildings and it will take you to a sandy path that locals use to walk home. If it's still open and not closed off from the public (it's been a loooooong time since we've been back home), you can follow it straight out to the water where there's a very small almost cove-like area. We used to find a TON of sea glass there amidst the rocks. Other great places would be Goosewing Beach in Little Compton, RI, if it's still open to the public (that has changed on and off over the years) - we ALWAYS went there when I was a little girl - and pretty much anywhere on Cape Cod. I found a lot on the shores of Bass River, if you can believe it - a lot comes in with the tide (even used to catch live scallops floating in the water there!). Come to think of it, if you need ANY site-seeing recommendations in general, just email me! I've got LOTS of great ideas for you!!!

Geez, now I've made myself homesick! LOL!

Nsncy Jo...I have a huge (no joke) collection of sea glass. I brought it all up to our house in Oregon where we are now, so I will bring some back home next week so I can send it to you. We have collected it all at Glass Beach on the Mendocino coast of California. Glass Beach is pretty famous in sea glass collector circles :) Look it up online Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, California. It will tell you it's history!
We were collecting sea glass there before it became so well known, so we have a ton. I do have my special treasures of blue, red, pink, purple, yellow, orange....but they are few. I have tons of green, brown, clear and milk glass. I am going to try to send photos from my phone or do it when we get home next week! Either way, I will send a goodie bag your way when we get back home!

Hugs, Tammy

Hi Nancy! I run at the beach several times a week and love when I find beach glass! I would be happy to trade some of my beach glass for buttons :)

I have also lived in Florida a long time and found no sea glass. Shells galore, sharks teeth, bottles that were whole, but no beautiful sea glass. One trip to Monterey California changed that! It was everywhere! It must be the currents of the water, or the ships are so far out the glass they used to toss over never makes it to shore. I don't know the reason why. But, I love what I found but will keep it in memory of that fun trip to California. NAncy, have fun getting some new pieces of glass!

Oh, Tammy, I so wanted to get up to that beach when I lived in California. I lived down in Orange County and I used to collect most of my glass at Laguna Beach. There was some there and also at Huntington Beach. Most of my glass has come from MA near Cape Cod area. I just returned from there this week with a little bag full. Mostly, though it is brown, clear and some green. My DH did find two tiny pieces of blue.

Well, we are FINALLY going to Salem this Saturday. Will certainly be looking for seaglass and hope to find something. Also looking forward to being in Salem, MA again. We SO enjoyed it when we were here 6 years ago. It's a great time of year. We may even take a "ghost tour" I'll keep you posted on what we find. Joey

I am still collecting as often as I can. I sure do miss finding a few pieces at the beach. I am so sorry that I never got up to the glass beach. I tried to get my dear daughter to get me some when she was on her way up to Oregon but she didn't want to stop off. I will exchange buttons and/or pretty stickers transfers for any seaglass.

Hugs,

Nancy from Florida....where I cannot find any sea glass.

Nini-we went to Salem and Marblehead on Wednesday and went to the places you suggested and found many (about 10 or so) pieces of seaglass. It was so special. Thanks for letting us know where to go. THe Willows is still such a special place. The sandy path is now concrete but we could follow it down to the beach/rocks at the little cove, and we found the beach at Marblehead easily. Such a fun day and very happy with our finds. I wish we had more time here..we've only got 1 more week and then we head to my BFF home in NH for the weekend and then head south. I'd love to go back to the beach after this monster storm we are expecting. I'm sure it is going to swirl up alot.
Stay safe everyone. Joey
