Hello Ladies,
This is my second summer with chickens and I have noticed that during the hot months they get diarrhea. What can I add to their water to prevent this from happening? (after I give them the de-wormer).

We give ours electrolytes in the water and add probiotics to feed. Also not feeding anything that has alot of sugars in it.

Hi Rachel,
please tell me what do you use for electrolytes and probiotics?

Might also be from them drinking more water due to the heat too
Our hens congregate around the waterer almost allthe tine when its super hot and some have the runs that's almost all water sometimes.
If it really bothers you, you can buy packages of electrolytes for animals at your local feed store and follow the directions. Might help with excess water consumption needlessly flushing excess nutients from their system |

I use the same thing for them that I buy for the horses from the feed store. Probios I think is the probiotic. The electrolytes has a horse on the bag and is in an orange and white bag (I think) but can't recall the name. I give this to all the critters when its hot and as needed any other time.

yes it's due to drinking more water. Remember that they do not "pee", the poop is their poo and pee together, so with more water, it's going to be more watery.

I have seen a difference since giving them children's pedialyte. They poo is not so runny any more and they are not panting as much. But they will be wormed in the fall as well.
