Today I am hoping to can whole tomatoes. It is the first time I am doing this so please wish me luck. I am following the instructions from Mother Earth News and it comes with pictures. Had a huge harvest this week and I've got to do something with them.

God bless,

Judy

Good eating when you are done! Have been afraid to can, so I freeze my harvest.

That's great! Ours are still green, but I am hoping to can some. Tomatoes are high-acid, so they are pretty easy to do without worry. Home canned tomatoes are great, since the acid in them makes them leach BPA from the plastic liners in canned ones at the store. I also want to try a new recipe I found in this year's Farmers Almanac Garden Guide for Tomato-Basil jam. Anyway, good luck, and let us know how it goes! I'm sure you will do great!

I can tomatoes every year, and they are so good in spaghetti sauce and so many dishes. I like to leav several of mine on the counter just for pretty. This year so far, I have gotten 7 quarts, three pints and one little jar using the leftovers. At first, I was intimidated, but now it has become easy. Good for you for getting so many!!! Did you make your own juice or use canned tomato juice?

Looks great!

My tomatoes are just now coming in. I bought a sauce maker last year and canned herbed sauce and ketchup. I may freeze my sauce this year. Not sure yet.

I have been canning beets and relish. I have a stock of pickles already canned from our previous season.

Made four more pints today of tomatoes, but I know that is the last, since I have already pulled my tomatoes out of the ground. Living in FLorida, the crop comes early and leaves early.

Great Job on the canning, they look delicious.

Life's too short to sit in a box all day. Get out and do something creative.

Judy, great job! You've really accomplished something. Our family calls the canned goods our "family jewels". They are so pretty when they are finished. What will you try canning next?

Tomorrow I will help DD can salsa. Just finished 11 pints of tomatoes for us.

Hi!

I am a new farmgirl sister and am very excited to see this forum. I will be canning this week for the first time- trying tomatoes. I was wondering if Judy could share the link to the Mother Earth News recipe. I have the magazines, but am unable to find. Those look so great in your picture so I am hoping to follow the same method!

Peace!
