Hi Girls!
I'm in need of a new iron. In twenty years of marriage, I've had several: Rowenta, Oreck, Shark, and recently Sunbeam. The Rowenta lasted longest, I guess. The Oreck was free, and not very good. Back to it, since the last one was the Sunbeam, which just conked out, exactly two weeks after the warranty I paid for. The Shark was horrible - never again. Any suggestions???

I use an iron every day and all day when I'm sewing my aprons and such for Farmers Market. I've worn out several, but my latest one is a Black & Decker I bought at Walmart (don't remember cost but not the most expensive one nor the lest expensive). I REALLY LIKE IT . . . and one of the features I like is that it shuts itself off after so long (3 minutes I think) while upright and in 30 seconds if down on a surface. To me that feature is priceless!!!!

Not the cheapest option, but wrestling with the cord has always been the worst part of ironing for me. Maybe because I'm left-handed, I don't know. Anyway, my last cheap iron died because I snagged the cord on something and slammed it to the floor, so I decided to just go nuts and get something that would fix the problem rather than perpetuate it. |

Ugh!!! Now my vacuum died, and it's only a year and three months old!! It was not the most expensive, but not the cheapest either! When it rains it pours, right? DH says on the upside, it is all forcing me to take a couple days' vacation from chores, lol.
@CJ - You are right, I definitely need to get an iron with Auto Shut off. That's a good feature.

No advice on brand, but in my experience, you do kind of get what you pay for when it comes to irons. I wouldn't necessarily go for the most expensive, but I would certainly avoid cheap irons. I like ones with retractable cords and auto shut-offs.

I have had to iron dress shirts for dh for the last 27 years, as well as dockers. I wouldn't get anything but a Rowenta. I would go through an iron a year until I bought my first Rowenta about 1999. I am only on my second one at this point. Pretty good track record.

Think I will look at Rowenta again. I have to iron all dh's shirts because he is so highly allergic to starch (but not starch I make myself). I think looking back the one I had lasted longer than the others. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Black and Decker Digital Advantage. It has a stainless steel soleplate. I've had it for months, never cleaned the soleplate and there is not one stain on it. The best iron I have ever owned, and I've owned many!! You can't go wrong with this iron. Bought it on Amazon. Let me know if you want more info.

| I wish that someone made an iron that did NOT turn itself off. It is a royal pain in the neck to do a proper sewing job when you constantly have to wait for the iron to heat up again. I use it only for sewing, and my workspace is so small that I have to shut it down to leave the room. |

I've had great luck with Rowenta's. Seems like I got a really good deal on the last one thru Amazon. Lu

Thanks for all the info! DH bought me the Rowenta. I got the professional one at Costco, $30 cheaper than the regular one anywhere else. Love it!!! Works great and fast. Automatic shutoff, too. ;)

| Does anyone use those little craft irons? I saw one browzing in the craft dept of walmart the other day. It was so cute. I wonder tho is it just another gadget that will be just sitting there gathering dust or is it a great tool? |

the best one I have ever used is a Rowenta. You can find them sometimes at Tuesday Morning, or Joanns...The cost a little more but saving up for one is worth it..They are German made and very good, in my opinion. Smiles
