Hello! I live in rural Carlock, Il and there has been no rain for like 2 months! It just keep missing us! Very frustrating when trying to maintain a garden and sweet corn; not to mention the crops. I think we can write off our 40 acres of field corn:(.
I have come up with some creative ways to conserve what water we do have.
I've been using water from our dehumidifier to water the garden!
Our 16'x4' swimming pool developed a hole in it; wouldn't you know that the hole is in the bottom! We've been connecting a hose from the pool to the cistern so we can use the water in the cistern to water the garden too. Then, when at the very bottom of the pool, we had to siphon out the water to get the pool dry enough to patch the hole. My husband was going to just let the pool water drain out into the yard! I said "uh-uh!" and started filling buckets and watered everything in sight that needed water; the garden, the sweet corn, fruit trees, flowers..we did this for 2 hrs 8pm til 10pm. My oldest son was helping me. He asked when I was going to be done. I told him "as long as you keep emptying the buckets I'm going to keep filling them!"
It's amazing how God blesses us with ways to use what water we do have! But I'm still praying for rain!!!

We too have been praying for rain. Our garden (34 x 24) is slowly dying. The beans are turning yellow, the dirt is so dry the earth is cracked. Forget the lettuce and spinich this year. So much has gone so bad. I have saying our lawn looks bad but is as dry as hay and the color of it too. Everyone keep praying for some rain for us.
God bless,

What a great idea using your pool water. I just know we farmgirls function from the place of "when there is a will there is a way". My sister lives in Michigan and she said the drought ruined the apple and cherries crops there. At their annual Cherry Festival, they had to ship in for the first time cherries from other areas...like Chile, etc. It was very sad! Annie

Annette, sorry about your corn crop. Here in SW Louisiana, we've had rain for 7 straight days. Well, one day it sprinkled. I hope it rains for y'all soon. Marly

Annette, I feel your pain, parts of KY. are in a drought situation. It really takes a toll on your livelihood! Hay here is almost nonexistent! The farmers are already rolling their corn, to try to save a few $ feeding their livestock this winter. This past week we have received a bit of rain, but still won't cover losses. I'll send up a prayer!

Southern Wisconsin is experiencing the drought also. The corn looks like Yucca plants and the soybeans are all curled up. We did finally get some rain last night and this morning! My rain barrels are full again! I have been watering with the city water, which I don't like due to all the chemicals, but it was the only way to keep my garden growing.

Still nothing here...My poor apple trees are dropping fruit as well as my plum tree. Lack of water and stress? The leaves are curled as if gently asking for rain! I stopped watering my flowers-we only have city water as it is already to late to salvage them without running up a huge water bill.
I have never wanted it to rain so much in my life.

Hi Annette and Welcome to MJF! So sorry to hear about all the drought conditions everywhere. We were moderately dry(the paper said)haha, but we since got rain for 2 days straight and the temps dropped into the 70's both days, so that really helped. The yard is still brown and like some of you who are using city water...I hate to see the total of our bills this year.~~ugh~~
