First, this season, we battled rats in the chicken barn. Now that we are completely surrounded with corn crops, it's raccoons we have now. Guess we have our work cut out for us this year.
My son heard the chickens cackling up a storm late last night, while walking the dogs. He peeked in and saw two baby raccoons pacing the end of the coop. Up in the loft was Mommy raccoon. They were looking for chicken feed, but could not get into it. We have large rocks on top of the containers.
We also have to bring in the barn cat food at night. My daughter almost came face to face with one in the cat food the other night.
I doubt trapping would do any good, as we would just keep getting more.

Be sure to check the perimeter of your chicken pens every morning for signs of digging in, so you can fix something before you lose any chickens. Move the radio around and change the stations daily, so the coons don't get used to it.
