We ended up bringing home a new puppy today. We've been talking about getting a dog for my husband to take with him to work as he travels around and today someone happened to post a litter of pups on the local facebook barter page that he just loved!

It took a long time to decide which puppy to get, but he decided to go with the more laid back pup. I have a certificate from a college in dog training so I don't mind working with more dominant dogs, but my husband doesn't have that experience so particularly with a heeler, I didn't want to get a dog that would challenge his leadership.

She's half purebred blue heeler & half red heeler mix. I think she's going to keep the majority of the heeler physical features. Her momma was gorgeous!

We spent the half hour drive home trying to come up with a name. We wanted a name that would fit in with my husbands line of work(farrier) because she'll be going on his rounds with him. We ended up settling on the name Striker. In horseshoeing competitions, your striker is your partner for the class. He's usually a more experienced farrier who can help you through the class and they are the ones that swap steel in & out of the forge for you, and they strike with a huge hammer to help give you the extra power you need.

She's only been here a few hours and she's already had her first lesson. It is imperative that she learns to absolutely stay in the back of the pickup when he is working at all costs. She is NOT allowed out of the back of the pickup unless he says so. (When he's driving of course, she'll be in the cab with him) He sat in the back of the pickup with her for awhile when we got home. She's too little to jump down yet so it's the perfect time to start teaching her. For those of you who aren't familiar with farriers, they work out of the back of their pickups so they are right there next to them so it's not like she'll be sitting in a parking lot by herself.

Here are a few photos of her :-)

She's already helping my husband with his bookwork :-D

That is just about the cutest puppy I've ever seen!!!!!!!! OMGoodness, if I'd live closer to you, that puppy would go missing. LOL. Your husbands face tells it all, he already is in love with Striker. Thanks for those beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Oh yeah! I love having a puppy in the house again! She's curled up asleep on my husbands t-shirt in the bathroom.

Nicole,

That is the cutest puppy! Congrats! My DD and I are both going "Awwwwww" right now! I love the pics but especially the one of Striker next to your husband's boots.

My mom has a blue heeler. They are such sweet, good dogs. I agree with Marly, you will have to put more pics on here!

I had to share these two because I thought they were really cute. This is Striker meeting my son, Maverick for the first time.
