Just curious.
I see a lot of etsy users.

I have occasionally sold raw wool online, and we occasinally sell breeding stock but not much more than that.

My husband has been buying wool processing equipment to start up a fiber business. It is something he has wanted to do since we started raising sheep years ago.
It looks like it is finally happening.

Curious to hear what others are doing...

I own two, my photography business and a glass etching business. My husband also owns his own farrier business and together we own our ranch. That being said I have never had any luck selling anything on etsy. I've tried glass etched products, framed photos, clean blown quail eggs, art made from horsesoes and never sold anything at all. I gave up and do most of my advertising on facebook. I know many have great success with etsy but I was not impressed.

I have my own business , I have an antique store it's called " Red Barn Antiques & More". I have been open about 8 months and we just got another building next door so we can expand. I rent out booths, so the vendors price and set up their own items. It gives shoppers lots of choices as each vendor has their own taste and style. Blessings, Karen
I hope y'all have great success with your fiber business.

I have a silver smithing/ jewelry business...I had a soap business for years & closed that when glycerine soap became all the rage...would like to start that up again...mine was the old fashioned lye soap using a recipe from the 1860's.

I have a little online shop on etsy called "anna's trunk." I feature mini pillows that highlight quotations from classic literature, historical fashion, etc. I've been there almost four years now and I love it!!!

What interesting businesses!
It is interesting to read all of the different things people are doing. I always wonder how it all got started.
Thanks for sharing!
Hopefully we will be able to get a business off the ground :)

If you count farming a business, then I do that. I have market gardens, sheep for meat and wool, meat chickens and egg layers. Also sell goat milk and cheese. Also just opened an Etsy store where I am trying to sell my recycled jars and vases @ FatGoatsRecycledJars. Haven't sold any yet though. Also make and sell soap.

I definatly count farming.
Any business we have looked into has been farming related!
The livestock pay for themselves. I would just like to actually make money :)
Fiber is something we are interested in.
Do you have a dairy to sell cheese?

No. It would cost over $100,000.00 to get a grade A dairy milking room and kitchen and cheese making room. Can't do that. I just sell to friends and have a goat share where people pay so much a year for goat care and feed and they get at least a gallon of milk for so much a week. I sure wish I had the money to be able to have a grade A operation. Then I could charge and arm and a leg!

I have heard it is difficult to start a dairy and costly.
In Michigan people have to sell goat shares to sell their milk. A woman from our homeschool group sells her milk that way.

I am working on trying to get certified to sell goat milk for pet consumption. The laws in Ga. are crazy when it come to raw milk. I do sell shares anyway. And sell cheese to. I guess I am a rebel at heart.

My husband and I are co-owners of a CPR Training Business. We train for certification or re-cert. for adults, infants and children, as needed by our clients. We also teach and certify in Childcare and Babysitting Safety. Most recently, we added OSHA re-certification for medical offices.
BUT, what I'd really like to do is sell my soaked nuts...I'm currently working on a new idea with them...at farmer's markets and maybe eventually on-line. I sure would like some advice as to what direction to take (legally) due to the fact this is food I'm considering.

You can take the girl from the farm, but never the farm from the girl.

Check with your State Food Laws.
From what I have heard every state is different and always changing.
In Michigan you use to have to have a certified kitchen to sell baked foods at farmers markets, now you do not.

I know when we were selling meat by the package we had to work with the USDA office.
The local farmers market have to work with the Health Department on some foods.

I own my own business, it's called Integrated Logistics Solutions Group. I'd love to give up that business and just have a small farm/Ranch with some chickens, Bees, organic herbs and such. I always dreamed of a small tea Shop with a few antiques and some unique plant stuff. We'll see...

My husband and I have a custom cabinet and countertop business; he is also a general contractor. With this economy, we are taking more and more smaller jobs just to keep the crew on the payroll. And I also have a quilt restoration business which is very slow right now.

We live in the city, so no livestock but a large raised garden.

Remember… Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body. Instead, you should slide in sideways, glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, in a body thoroughly used up, worn out and screaming “Woohooo! What a ride!”

My husband and I own a fishing guide/charter business. He guides out of the rivers on the Washington Peninsula (Sol Duc, Bogashield, etc.) January - April and transitions to the Southwest WA rivers (Cowlitz, Chehalis, etc.) May - June and Sept - Dec. We run our ocean charter business out of Westport, LaPush, and Chinook (Ilwaco), WA during the summer months and fish for salmon (Kings/Silvers), Tuna, sea bass, ling cod, etc. We are a private 6-pack charter (are licensed to fish 6 people on our boat) and can easily transition to the best fishing grounds. As a family, we get out as much as we can and this summer I caught my first tuna! (I typically don't go tuna fishing because they have to go 40-50 miles offshore and that's too far for me!)

My husband's "real" job is with the State as a Marine Transportation Specialist (pretty fitting for him!) and I work for a local engineering/surveying firm as the Development Manager and Office Manager. Our lives our busy but fulfilling and we love owning a small business.

You can visit our website at wwww.washingtonwestfishing.com see if you can find my fish :0).
