Happy Birthday to your daughter! I hope the girls have a blast tonight - and bet they sure will!

But - - - Waaaah! for Mom! Oh, Kristina - you know, I'm not a cry-er (I hate to cry!)...But now that my son's growing up, lately I find myself weeping over all sorts of crazy things - especially whenever my son's birthday comes around, or when he hits silly little "life marks" like when he started getting underarm hair. Yes, I really did cry over that! I don't know WHERE THAT reaction came from, but I couldn't turn off the waterworks! Geez!!! I try not to, but even when I go to my room and weep to myself behind closed doors, I embarrass him like crazy! Now his voice is changing, he's 6'1-2-3" (it's different every time he's at the doctors - all I know is he towers - TOWERS over me!), and his 16th birthday is just around the corner... and, >>sniff<< he plans to be visiting his grandparents around that time, so I'm going to be home alone crying in my coffee!

Why is it so hard when our babies grow up? All these changes in them are rather exciting - inside, outside, through-and-through! I love seeing all the cool things happening in his life, and am so happy for him! But still, I miss my little boy - the one to whom I used to be everything - the sun, the moon and the stars... I feel almost obsolete sometimes. Not that he purposely makes me feel that way, but it's just a fact. He's growing and well on his way to going... We've got three more years of high school before he's off to college, and I'm becoming more and more aware on a daily basis as to just how quickly that day will come! On the one hand, I'm simply thrilled for his sake; on the other, I am already starting to feel the nest emptying. Do-able? Yes. But not easy.

Everybody knows and talks about how difficult these formative years are for teenagers as they try to figure out who they are and where they fit in in the world while they're growing up... But what I rarely - if ever - hear discussed is where we Moms and Dads fit in to the big picture. It's quite an adjustment for us, too, isn't it? As my friend Chris always says, "You'll have this." And my sister would say, "Relax. It is what it is." My heart, though, just doesn't seem to want to compute. I'd like to slam on the life brakes every now and then and just enjoy him for a looooong little while longer.

Well, we'll get through this together, dear friend. Maybe you and I could put on our jammies sometime and email back and forth all night - like an online slumber party! Wouldn't that be fun? I bet we could get a whole bunch of our farmgirl sisters to join us, too! I'd like that!

Hugs -

Nini

Happy Birthday to your dd, Kristina! Sounds like a fun day ahead. I know how it feels that time moves so fast. My baby will be ten soon. Have a great day, congrats to you both!

What a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday! Sleepovers are just so much fun and I remember as a kid absolutely loving each and every invitation to do so. No doubt you will be busy getting a few things ready for the celebration. But 13 is a great age because they are more independent and fun to be with. Have a great evening!!

My oldest just turned 18 on the 4th. My nephew brought his 2 week old baby here and it made me think of HIM as a baby...how quickly times goes by! It's exciting to see them grow into young adults but so sad to think of the time we'll never get back.

Before you know it, she'll be driving! ACK!
