Farmgirls, Please help.I bought, to raise to butcher, two old fashioned turkeys. They, as little ones are so much fun, have so much personality, now I am rethinking my original decision to take the to butcher. Question, do they always stay fun or do they get mean like Roo's when they are older?

if they are both Tom's, they will start fighting each other, and sometimes attack your other poultry, you your kids, pets, etc...

I had a Tom when my kids were young, and he was a great watch dog, he wouldn't let strangers cone near them and was never mean to them. Roxanna

I had 2 toms, and they were great fun. They would walk at and try to chase the males of my family. Nothing mean, but funny. They would also strut for the chickens, but never bothered them. As they got older, they did end up trying to fight their reflection, on my car. So after some scratches there, we did butcher them. They also liked to take dust baths in the garden. But they were never mean.

It will depend. If there aren't any hens around they may very well get along with each other. We have a TON of wild turkeys around my place and there are several different groups. There is the main flock made up of about 30 hens & 10 toms, the bachelor group that has 4 toms, the female loners which is 6 hens, and one lone hen that's always by herself.

Thank you gals. I guess I will wait and see what happens when they are older.

I can see why they were butchered after the car rodeo.
