Last year we really didn't participate in the summer reading programs, but this year, my 10 year-old is very eager.

They have programs for teens and adults too.

So far, most of the kids (and myself included) are going to read, read, read.

The program this year pertains to cooking. Guess who is going to show up with her apron? He he!

My 10 year-old dd also feels her age books are boring. I walked her to the adult section and gave her books to read by Joanne Fluke - great mystery books with recipes included. She, like me, looooooooves a good mystery.

Are any of you participating in summer programs with your kids?

The kids meet by themselves at the library, but I can simply read books and write reports on them for entries into a contest.

Guess what 2 prizes are?

Vintage aprons!

I signed my daughter up last Monday and she has 47 minutes in already. Their theme is mysteries.

Kristina- I love good mysteries as well! I think my all time favorites were the Dorothy Sayers Lord Peter Whimsy series. Totally addicting for me!! Have you read the Tea Shop Mystery series? They are so fun and come with recipes highlighted in the book. Easy to read but great characters.

Enjoy your reading activities at the Library!

We are also doing the reading program. There isn't a theme, just read as much as you can. I guess their theme is Read A Million Pages. We also wear our aprons to the library. Beats dragging the purse around.

I have not read those books. I will have to look them up at the library. Thanks for great tip!

DD wore her apron to the library yesterday (for the first program). She's having lots of fun.

I read an entire book in one sitting on Sunday. I haven't done that in years.

How is everyone doing? I have to finish a library book by tonight. Not sure if I can, but will try. I'm busy canning relish today. :)

I finished the book! I had to read while the cornbread baked, while the sweet pickle relish boil sealed, and in between other stuff, but got it read. Now.....onto the next book.

I have to share this too. I sit and knit at the library (unless I'm reading) while I wait for the program to end. I met another mother who has hives and sells honey not far from my house. I had no idea and we chatted for the entire hour. You never know what you encounter when you knit in public. People always want to know what I'm knitting. I did check out some more knitting magazines while I was there too. Fun, fun, fun.

I just ordered the first book in the Lord Peter Whimsey series. Can't wait to check this author out.

Yes! I went and got three books to read! I think I'm more excited to understand this recipe thing you ladies talked about than even read the story. Sadly, I haven't had time to start any of them, since DH has been away this week, but he comes home today so I should have an hour or two soon.

Our summer program has ended, but the winner of the adult drawing will be announced on Monday. They are giving away antique aprons and a Kindle.

Also, I wanted to share a series that I just love, and have been reading for years - Lucy Stone Mysteries by Leslie Meier.

Our local library also runs a summer reading program, I've signed the kids up for the past few years. I know they also have reading programs in place all year for adults too (like different book clubs). Love the library :)
