Right before Halloween, I go to a U-Pick pumpkin/squash field that's really close to our farm - I get a BUNCH of all of it - corn, squash, pumpkins of all kinds - and put them on the front porch and one on either side of the gateposts... It's simple, but it works and I like how it looks - then, when we want a squash for dinner, we just go outside and "pick" one!

I bought a great looking scarecrow that stands up all on his own - he's the welcome man at my front door!

soon's i get back home .. i have to 'dress' our permanent scarecrow lady for autumn. have been avoiding that area since mid-summer .. cuz' we've let the 'weeds' take over and i'm sure 'jake the snake' lives in there. hank is going to cut it all back in anticipation for our summer 2007 garden.
would love to see photos of autumn decorating .. inside and out.

Rebecca, what a nice selection of pumpkins and gourds! Are you going to decorate/face paint any of them?

Probably not, I love pumpkins plain. I would like to put out some lanterns to add some light at night.
I have been wanting to create a scarecrow. I want to make it out of old cast off clothing.
Have you guys ever seen the scarecrow that has pumpkins in its britches for 'cheeks' and its bent over in the yard mooning the passersby? Those are hilarious!

I finally got a hold of DH's digital camera to take some shots of our autumn/halloween decorations. Of course I don't put all my halloween stuff out on the porch until it is a few days before - one reason - weather (usually rainy and windy - stuff get's blown around) other reason - neighborhood kids won't be surprised if they see it all week.
So here are some of my photos - Purple kale in one of my square planters ]
My decorative wheel barrow and a bucket of gourds [ ]
Some more fall flowers and our kitty statue - ]
Steps leading up to our front door - ]
Some cute halloween characters I got at the local garden shop and antique mall
]
And one of our scary kitties - Gracie - she looks a bit "evil" here. Actually she is yawning.

Was hoping to get white pumpkins this year like Rebecca has but no one is carrying them. Got them last year and loved them, so had to go with a couple of the green - ugly - squash things. They are kinda cool though.

What good pictures, what farmgirl fun. Our son will head to the pumpkin patch with his school buddies today. He will collect his pumpkin and memories. I will add the hay, sunflowers, corn stalks and a bow or two. Happy Fall, farmgirls! Pennie

Anne, You have such great pictures. I love them. I am not done with my decorating yet. I hope to get most of it finished today. It is 80 here today and humid. It doesn't feel like fall. I hope to post some pictures when I have a chance. Ruth

I love all the fall pictures , decorating and ideas you all come up with , even Gracie the cat is getting in the spirit, lol.
I like to decorate with all the fall colors and need to get crackin on this soon before Christmas stuff comes out.
Sis likes to decorate our trails with sorta spooky things, while I like the Indian corn, straw, pumpkins and gourds, campfire going and hot cider to drink.
The trails always has Scary Harry waiting to greet you when you enter the trails. He's not all that scary tho
One year I kept him out all winter and dressed him as a hunter, he seemed to be happy.
I got to fix him up , a new outfit for this season and more stuffing
Happy Autumn

I love scary harry. I usually use DH's work pants, an old flannel shirt, work gloves and boots and stuff all that to make a headless guy on our porch for Halloween. Usually I put a jack o latern in his lap. One year I figured out a way to have him standing near the door, and his foot propped up on the pumpkin head. Still hot here so I haven't quite got started on fall decorating, pictures above were from a year or so ago. Need to post new pictures once I decorate.
