Hi Farmgirls,
I'm not a huge tv watcher...I don't watch that much, and what I do watch I usually record on the DVR and watch later in the evening or early in the morning. Love movies, and was really looking forward to the series "Hatfield and McCoys" on the History channel. Tonight is part 3. I love historical movies, and anything with the Civil War or Old West. Apparently they are replaying the series all week if you missed it. Looking forward to part 3 tonight, and am impressed by all the actors in it: Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, Mare Winningham (love her, she's such a great actress and picks awesome roles), Tom Berenger. Anyway, I've enjoyed it. I am looking into finding a book on the subject for my next read. Already "googled" the subject to death and checked out my civil war/western history books on my shelf. I'm enjoying the series.
Anyone else out there that's been watching it?

Yes! We are! But we only were able to watch about 2/3 of the first episode the other night - everything has been recorded to DVR. We're into historical movies, as well. We have really enjoyed what we've seen so far. Is this supposed to be historically accurate, though? They seemed to have been promoting it as such. I have to say, it's very interesting to learn the story behind the legend. So sad. - Nini (Oh! LOVE Mare Winningham, too!)

yes, we are watching it at our house. Like Nini we have only seen part of the first episode but hope to see all of it tonight. We have it recorded so we will not miss any of the episodes. I think it is very good so far.

I read a few articles on it, and from what I read, seems to be pretty accurate. Can't wait to read a book on the subject. Tombstone was one of the most historically accurate movies, another favorite that had both Powers Boothe and Bill Paxton, as well.

I grew up in southern Indiana, so I knew about some of the story ever since I can remember. It was talked about years and years.
It does seem pretty accurate.I love those kind of movies and books. There is alot of things on the internet about it.

I actually turned it off after about 20 minutes or so...I haven't watched anything since the first installment and I thought the acting was sub-par-Just my opinion.

Dha nd I our enjoying it. I read up on the families and the show seems true to the facts. Funny that I read the the two families, years later of course, competed on Family Feud.

Growing up here in the boonies in NM I saw so much country justice and clan feuds as a kid that I really can't hardly stand to watch or read any of that kind of drama. It makes my spirit feel sad and uneasy. I like for people to get along. Things can get so out of hand. It's not even entertaining to me at all.

Yes, we watched all three episodes. I liked the movie and all of the actors were excellent. I agree that the story is historically accurate, albeit unsettling how entire families could maintain such evil grudges against each other - I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that one. My favorite part was the last half hour or so....I won't spoil it in case someone hasn't seen it yet. I've read a book about these families in the past but don't remember the title so I'm going to have to look it up. This movie certainly made me pause to appreciate how much our justice system has changed in the last century.

| Dh and I are working our way through Part 2...it is a story I kinda knew something about so I've been interested in learning more about what really happened. It was frightening to see how quickly a disagreement/resentment turned into such a sad chapter in history. |

Wow...what a big ol' mess they all got themselves into. We liked the series. @Deborah: they advertised it will be available on DVD soon. It is amazing to me how far that feud actually went.

My husband and I watched the first part last night. We hope to have time to watch some of the 2 and 3 episodes tonight. We do not have cable or Sat. either so we have to be a little behind everyone.

Definitely too strong for a 7 year old, but its been really good so far. Sad to see what could turn into so much violence. It's a cautionary tale for sure!

Yep, we are DVRing it and watching it the next day, so tonight we finish it off...I have not read any of the previous posts in case anyone has given the ending away...not that I think you would...but just being safe...I love these mini-series shows!

We are watching it too! We saw part 1 and 2 & 3 are on the dvr box waiting to be watched! We like part 1! My dh and I like to watch history pieces like this!

I am from Hazard Kentucky which is close to where it happened. The scenery is beautiful and made me home sick. The acting is wonderful I think and I love the movie. It was interesting to me to see how Johnse ended up with Roseanne's cousin. I think it is historically factual and just proves how a few people are in charge and have followers. I think the the 2 fathers, the Uncle and Perry Cline were to blame for the most part.

I enjoyed it, but I found it to be very "pro-Hatfield" :) At one point, at the end, they mentioned the treaty signed in 2003 and I thought, "not anymore!" As an aside, I could have looked at the actor that played Johnsie Hatfield JUST about all day long!
The film made the McCoy side out to be a bit maniacal, but, in fact, studies have been done on the deceased (dna) and the descendants of Ranel McCoy and they all share a gene mutation/disease that could account for their quick to anger fight or flight tendencies. Growing up in Kentucky, we learned early on about the feud, and living here still today, I find that Pike County, Kentucky is one of the most violent (and crooked) places to live--it is a very poor county, with a large "black market" of still mined spirits and, sadly, drugs. Working in the legal field, some of our law enforcement clients have witnessed first hand "back woods judgment" and say that you can't trust any elected official, so to that end, times haven't changed much in that part of the state.
It's funny, Delicia--did you know that the movie was filmed in Yugoslavia? I guess it is probably a lot more inhabited near the Big Sandy, now.

We only got in on a little bit last night...since we already had missed the first parts..hubby had the remote..lol....anyway ..glad to hear it is to come out on DVD...sounds like most enjoyed it..thanks for the input girls....Shirl

I wondered where it was filmed. It really looks like where I am from, the mist comes up off the mountains each morning and is beautiful. I love being from Apalachia and am sad to say that there is a lot of crime, drugs etc. in that area. That being said there are also a lot of hard working people who have learned to live off the land. I think there is drugs, violence and such every where at this point and good and bad people. It was so weird for me to go into the down town area and see the poor people here. It is totally different than the poor people where I am from. I was blessed with a Mammaw and Pappaw that taught me to respect the land and use it they were just the best and I understand each day how much they were able to do with so little.
