Maybe some of you have been wondering what happened to My Tiny Farm recently? Well, we have been busy on the farm with a number of projects that involve reading and researching and and re-thinking and finally making decisions! It has been a glorious ride and I am proud to say that I have had a shot-gun seat in the farm wagon wearing my best apron!  The ride is actually just beginning and I am anticpating an incredibly fun summer ahead!
However, My Tiny Farm has developed a small plot of available space in the flower garden out front and planted some organic string beans, one Roma tomato plant, that is about 10x the size when it went into the ground!!!, radishes, basil, lavender, and lemon thyme.

To my total amazement, here is one Roma tomato bush absolutely loaded down with tomatoes! I can hardly believe it!

The green beans are doing quite well and we had our first meal from them on Thursday night. I can now experience myself that the "Farm to Table" movement is on to something quite delicious and gourmet here!

I planted the radishes after the beans but they seem to be happy and growing . I love sliced radishes on good hearty bread spread with unsalted butter. Oh, Yeh, I am going to get back to grinding that wheat again and making bread for the harvest of these beauties. My RED(=D)Retsel Grain Grinder made in Idaho does the perfect job!

But, as I was focusing on the other plants with my camera, LOOK who snuck OUT of the fall decoration box EARLY!!

You know, you just can't be sure about Scarecrows! Remember last fall how this little friend invited ALL of his personal buddies for a jam session that lasted way into the night?????

But, I do love Scarecrows and now that My Tiny Farm has an official garden, it only seemed right to not argue about the fact that it is (ahem) MAY and not September!
Of course he insisted on taking credit for the colandar of freshly picked beans......

And, he insisted on bringing a "friend" along for the summer! He knows how I love coffee in the morning and what could be cuter than a scarecrow mug to use??? See, he "knows" me well!

Remember in The Wizard of Oz, how the scarecrow wanted to visit Oz to get some brains??? Well, believe me, this scarecrow has not only got brains, but sneaky skills too! I mean, how did he get out of that box of decorations and into the garden anyway????
It is going to be a great summer at My Tiny Farm. And I am hoping to have tomatoes, green beans, radishes and my basil to creat my own Farm to Table dinner right here on the farm! I wish you could come and have supper with us!

Such beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing them with us. Yesterday, we harvested a grand total of 14 string beans.

Your garden looks great Winnie! Good for you! There really is nothing like the satisfaction of plantiing, tending and harvesting your own food. Love all of the pictures. Thanks for sharing!

Ha ha ha! I love your stories. Roma tomatoes do seem to do very well. I saw a picture the other day of another lady's miniature garden. She had really made it miniature with little buildings and houses and tiny rows. Keep us updated about that sneaky scarecrow!

Loved this post! Oh my, those tomatoes look sooo good=) Ours have quite a ways to go before they'll be ready to harvest.
I've heard of the Retsel! We grind all of our wheat with an electric grinder, but we have a hand crank too if the power goes out.

Winnie, I'm so glad My Tiny Farm has been going through a growing boom! Your green beans got my mouth to watering! I've got Roma's coming out of my ears but they are still in my window waiting for it to warm up enough for us to plant. Oh how I envy you southern gardeners who can plant so early! Make sure that scarecrow shares those beans!

I just poured a cup of coffee and thought I'd sit for a minute or two of inspiration before tackling my bathroom :) So glad I did - the pictures were soo inspiring! I've planted my first garden on our tiny country lake plot (pretending its my farmgirl tiny farm ;) and just saw sprouts of carrots and squash popping up yesterday morning!! I'm soo excited can't hardly contain myself :) Oh the blessing of an early harvesting down south!! I agree with Audrey - my mouth is watering too!

Winnie, I'm so jealous you have tomatoes already, just getting seedlings in the ground going to try and go organic this year...I just hope a get a tomato before a frost, LOL.

Thank-you everyone for sharing about your gardens!! I love hearing about what others in different parts of the US are doing right now. It is amazing to me how much diversity there is in this huge nation of ours. Weather is the determining factor. With the increasing heat here in the 90s everyday plus the humidity, MY Tiny Farm will be winding down in another week or so. Except for the Basil, Lemon Thyme and Lavender. But late in July or early August, I have two differnt kinds of sunflowers and southern Seminole Pumpkin seeds. I hope to plant what will become the first fall garden for My Tiny Farm! So stay tuned. I mean afterall, the scarecrow should have some pumpkins to show off like all of the other scarecrows that live further North!! We were talking the other day ( that is the scarecrow and me) and he sort of admitted that the reason he jumped out of the fall decorations box so early was to encourage me to get with it for a fall garden! He is serious about this. Of course, Fall is my favorite season of the year so I thought he had a really good idea. I went to our local Co-Op Store and low and behold was a stand of seed packets close to the front of the store. Bingo! We have the start of our fall garden at the ready. And for those of you who asked, the stove is gas and would work if properly vented and attached to a propane tank. I just use it as a fun display in my kitchen because I love the way it looks! Sort of pretend. If you would like more details, check out earlier my posts about My Tiny Farm starting last July 28, 2011 under the "Farm of my Own" section of this MJF forum.
