 Hello Everyone!
Well, it's finally here. Our Wild Onions/garlic are ready to harvest, dehydrate and ship. Last year we were rained out, however, this year mother nature has rewarded us with a bountiful harvest!! I know several of you were interested in purchasing some last year so, before letting the world know it's going to be available, I am starting with my Sisters!!
If you would like to purchase some, please either post here or drop me an email. Orders will ship as each batch is finished dehydrating. The cost will be $5.00 for a small bag, that includes shipping! Please note, this can only be shipped within the continental USA. I will also include an instruction card for the many uses of this delectable treat!
For those who are unfamiliar with wild onion, it has a scent and flavor of a very mild garlic. . hence the name "wild garlic" instead of it's true name "wild Onion".
It is a very precious commodity since it was almost wiped out by folks harvesting everything in sight. I only harvest the leaves and leave the bulbs to insure a continuous crop. ( each plant will have 2-3 leaves, I harvest one leaf per plant, allowing the other leaves to put energy back into the bulb for the following year.)
The window of time for harvesting is a short 10 days before they are gone until next spring! Although many like to harvest the bulb for cooking use, the leaves are actually more flavorful. The bulbs tend to be "woody" in nature. Also, one plant takes 7 years to reach maturity in the wild, then the bulbs divide to propagate. It hardly seems right to harvest the bulbs when you receive the same flavor from just the leaves, protecting the future of this rare plant.
