| Where you have to blow up the pattern by 400% how do you do that? I've got some material my aunt gave to me and I think some of it would make a few great aprons but I've never done anything from a pattern where it needed to be blown up. |

If you go to Kinko's or some other place where they can do blueprint size copies they can do this for you at 400%. I think you will still have to piece the pattern together and tape it. Haven't done it yet but this is what I've heard others say that have.

I took the book to a copy place in my small town and they made a copy of that page and then enlarged it 400%. I can't remember exactly how they did it but I didn't have to piece the pattern together. If you just take the book there and tell them you want it enlarged at 400% I'm sure they'll be able to figure it out. It only cost me about $1.50.

Liz and Susan,
If you want to do it the old fashioned way...
you can draw a 1" square grid on something like freezer paper.
then draw a 1/4" square grid over the pattern you wish to enlarge.
then just copy what you see in each of the 1/4" squares into the 1" squares.
I find it very self-satisfying and nice, quiet work.
It's raining here this morning, sounds wonderful, Maybe I'll enlarge as pattern or two while enjoying the rain.

I will have to wait to go up north to be able to do that myself...I am in a town without even a stoplight...let alone a Kinkos..heehhee...I want to make the Helen Apron sometime ...cute cute cute...I love them all. I rarely ever wear half aprons though..I need the bib!!

I ordered the Helen apron and can't wait to get it. I ended up using my home printer to blow up the pattern that came in the Budget mix. It took a long time. First I blew it up 200%. Then I had to blow up each section anohter 200%. We live in a small town, too, but I will have to investigate the local copy place and see if they do blueprint sized so I don't have to keep taping together pieces.
Also, you can use tracing paper on a roll to trace out the pattern once it is copied up. The tracing paper on a roll comes 24". It's great for tracing one size off a multi-sized pattern in case you want to make a larger or different sized itme later one. It helped me a lot when making children's clothes for various nieces and nephews as well as my own two kids. It's much easier to pin through when laying out fabric to cut. I bought mine at an art supply store when visiting my sister in NJ.

You don't even need graph paper to do it manually, you can use a protractor and a ruler to measure the angles and the lines and then just do it freehand on freezer paper or even newspaper.
If a line is 2 inches long on the pattern, to scale it up 400%, just draw it 8 inches long.
