Anybody used the Tattler lids? I had never heard of them and a friend introduced me to them. I finally got to try some out last night with a run of strawberry jam. You can use them over and over! Is that wild or what? Anyway, I put pictures up at the blog to show how to use them. If you have used them, do you like them?

Just did a huge run of chicken with them last week. So far so good. Follow the directions for use! I had apparently had one jar to tight in the canner and when I went to tighten it down after taking it out... boiling chicken broth spewed everywhere! I was SO lucky I had a towel wrapped around the jar or I would have gotten burned for sure.
My friend who also uses them told me a little trick that works great. Put the lid and ring on. Tighten down. Mark a line with a sharpie on the ring and lid. THen back off at least 1/4" or so (I might go even a little more from now on). Then when you take the hot jars out of the canner, twist the ring back to a little beyond the mark you made.
By doing this, I only had 2 jars not seal out of over 40 total. And this was with chicken which can sometimes be a little greasy.
I am very excited to have them and be able to reuse to save that cost. Of course, I will still do a couple of jars with regular lids to give away, as I always seem to do. But no Tattler lids leave the house!

I just bought a box of these. Haven't even tried them yet, but now I'm excited to get going with them. I want to try vacuum sealing dry goods with them. I'll post when I do, to let you all know how it works.
Angie, thanks for the tip for sealing with the rings. I'll keep that in mind.

Jackie Clay approves them & anything she approves, I trust.
I used them this past year for about 4 doz various canned items, & all sealed & stayed sealed.
So far, so good. |
