Hi girls -

I'm just wondering if any of you have a special system for organizing and storing your seed packets - or seeds in general? I've amassed a small arsenal of seeds over the past couple of years, and have up until now stored them in those cute little half-pint ball canning jars, but now that's becoming extremely impractical. I'd like to find some sort of organizational box or something where I can alphabetize my seed packets and incorporate my own homemade packets of saved seeds. (Is it okay to use homemade packets? They're so cute! I can make tons of them very easily!) Right now I've got two generous sized baggies full of seed packets sitting on my dining room table, as well as some paper bags full of onion, squash, bean, pea, and pumpkin seeds, among others, sitting on my desk. It's a bit overwhelming, and even though I try to keep them organized in these bags, trying to sort through them to find which seeds I need is becoming a real hassle. I'm also wondering what you store your seed potatoes in??? I loved my former system, but as my collection grows and now that I'm learning more about saving seeds, my cute little jar system just won't work. If you have an really great ideas - maybe even some pretty AND practical ones - I'd love some help!

Thanks so much - I really appreciate it!

Nini, my husband keeps the seeds in old medicine bottles. Each has a colored label, marketing what the seed is and has the date the seed was placed in the bottle.
Good luck sorting the seeds.

Thank you, Marly!!! Well, you know what? I just threw out a ton of old medicine bottles a couple of months ago... Now I'm kicking myself! That's such an excellent idea! I'm going to make a few phone calls to see if some of our family and friends will start saving them for me. Does he keep them in a cupboard or a special container/box or something?

Hi,

A little bird told me you might be in need of some of these oodles and gobs of medicine bottles that I have. Let me know if you would like some and we'll go from there.

I use a cd case for my packages of seed, keep the flowers on the left, and the veggies on the right. I keep seeds that I collect each year in ziplock bags marked and into a basket, so it only takes up a small space on the shelf. I use a journal to keep map out my gardens and add the date in which I plant the seeds.
