You know, you can take the girl outta the country, but you sure can't take the country outta the girl. I am a mature mother and grandmother, and I still get that little girlish giddy over new baby chicks, lambs, calves, etc. I love our little urban farm with all the chickens, quail, pigeons and ducks hatching out. I think I drive my city hubby crazy!

I just received a phone call from someone wanting to buy 3 chicks for her and her little boy. She stated she does have a chicken coop and ask if it was true that she had to keep them in the house for 6 weeks. She also ask me if they would have babies when they get bigger. I told her, they could hatch out chicks if she ends up with a hen and rooster. She ask me "are all roosters, boys?". Ummm. I think I will offer to take them back if she ever decides she doesn't want chickens.

Hi Patty, glad I found you on here--I still find the site so huge to navigate--love the pic of the baby chicks--I sure miss having them. Maybe a one page "How to care for your ________" for those who don't do their homework. There is a site for pygmy goats for sale and she says on her site that she will take back (not refund tho) any goats she sells any time they can no longer care for them. I really enjoy your blogs and all your pics. Thanks!!! hugs,

So today someone called about my chicks while I was in Sam's Club with a GF of mine. The lady on the phone wanted brown egg layers and right now all I have are white egg layers...just because they wae brown chicks does not mean they lay brown eggs. When I got off the phone I told my GF that I didn't make a sale as these chicks would lay white eggs and the lady wanted brown eggs. The check out girl one lane over overheard my conversation and she said "Brown eggs are fresher". I told her that depends on which ones come out of the hen house later. Oh no she said "Brown eggs are ALWAYS fresher". Funny how people get ideas in there head and there is no changing them.

No Glenda, I did not sell the chicks. I am taking them to an auction tomorrow along with 2 young pigeons. I have 50 quail hatching out this next week and a couple of dozen ducks. I need to make room...lol.
My back has not been giving me problems since the cortisone injection. But BP is still an issue. They have scheduled me for a stress test. :) I am sure I will get all back to normal. :) How are you recovering? I hope you are doing well.
I went to the produce market this morning, to a dr appointment this afternoon. Then on to pick up a quail coop and buy some laying mash... so I had a very busy day. It has turned off cold here. I am going to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa and head to bed soon.

Patty, did they check your thyroid? i think that affects BP. also, this may sound silly but every time you think about it, just take a few slow deep breaths. in to count of 5 through your nose, then out through your mouth. and constantly think to relax your tongue and jaw. you will be surprised how much stress you hold there.
i'm thankful at least your back is better.

I am feeling a little better each day. Still get real tired and weak before the end of the day. I've been searching this site looking for ideas on how to get my stomach to behave in it's new place. Im going to buy some Kefir and see if that will help. Am taking an aloe vera product that seems to help too.

Hay there, Mz Patty,

I am always amazed at how disconnected people are from their food. Brown eggs are fresher....oh sure!!! I am a cattle rancher and have chickens. I raised quail last year and released them here on the ranch. Some people spoke to me about how cruel I was to let them fend for their selves "out there". Lots of strange comments. I try to educate some and still others I can only shake my head in amazement. Keep up your good works.

Hugs and prayers, Daizy

A basket full of adorable feathers. You're right, you sure can't take the farm out of the girl. Thanks for the post.
