Hi everyone, I'm looking for ideas to make my urban house look more like a little farmhouse in the 'burbs. It's a two story rancher, pale green in color with dark green trim and door. It has an ugly aluminum awning over the front door.... I was thinking of adding some country gold color trim and putting some flower boxes under the two front windows. Any suggestions or ideas, please??? I just had a weather vane put up on the roof and that looks great. But I welcome any and all ideas. I can try to post a picture of my house on here, I'm not real computer savvy though, LOL

Thank you all!!

Carol Brigid

It would help a lot to see a pic. Are you under an HOA? You could always stick a tractor and some hay in your yard. Hee hee.

How about a red door and window boxes? Make sure it is not fire engine red, maybe more of a wine color.

Ha ha I have a red door. And it is fire engine red. It goes great with the Pacific Pine green of the rest of the house.

You could always put up one of those cow mailboxes. It would say "this house is a soon-to-be farmhouse.

How about getting an old metal toolbox repainting it robin egg blue scuffle it up a little with sandpaper to give it the " old" look and plant flowers of all different colors in it. You could probably do the same with an old metal cooler.

Get a cowbell for a door bell!
Get old wash tub to fill with flowers.
Find an old plow to stick in a flower bed.

Hope this helps! Marlee

How about an iron farm bell on a pole in the yard. I called my family in from the outside with one. I also grew up with one on the farm. If you can find an old milk can, that will work too.
