My eye doctor just told me I have the start of cateracts. It just blew my mind since I dealt with my mom have surgery for hers. Has anyone had cateracts or know of anything I can do to slow the growth? I'm only 51 and this to me is really suprizing. I need to go back in a couple weeks and have him dialate my eyes to check for macular degeneration or retinopothy. I thought it was too soon to get a hearing aid but I am going soon to the audiolgist, but now my eyes too. I feel like sooner than later I will be sitting in the living room not seeing and not hearing, what then?
God bless,

I also have cataracts and am having a hard time reading, especially on the computer, or the newspaper, and need alot of light to see, but I cannot afford to get them taken care of. Our insurance does not cover them, so I just have to wait for awhile and see what happens. I am 61, still not that old.

OcuGuard Plus and other supplements that contain Lutein help prevent/slow down cataracts and promote good eye health. Always wear sunglasses, because sun exposure causes cataracts as does sodum lauryl sulfate which is in a lot of shampoos. So, be careful not to get shampoos or soaps that contain it in your eyes.

This isn't as scary as you might think. Plain old cataract surgery isn't painful, you recover quickly, and is very common. They usually do one eye at a time so you don't have to miss out on too much.
I was diagnosed with "starter" cataracts a few years ago. (I'm 64 now.) My eye doctor (a surgeon) recommended that I just wear sunglasses when outside, which she says everyone should do anyway. No corrective surgery would be necessary, she says, for quite a while. And of course, the longer you wait, the better the available treatments. Just earlier today, I chatted with a friend who had cataract surgery done by a wonderful doctor experienced in implanting new lenses while he's removing the cataracts. She now has 20/40 vision in both eyes. She was pretty much blind before, couldn't drive a car or anything. She's about my age, maybe a bit younger.
Omega3 fatty oils are good for your eyes, especially as you get older. I take two of those big Omega 3 gelatin capsules every morning with breakfast. |
