Hey girls! I thought I would introduce myself to all of you. I received Maryjanes book from my sister a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. My hubby and I are signing papers tomorrow on 70 acres of land here in Colorado. I am so excited! But I also know that I will have alot of questions. I have never had a farm so to speak, although I have been on them and have family with a farm. But now its in my hands, and I am thrilled. Today I met with a lady that asked if I had any chickens. I said nope, but i sure want some. She said ok, when you get your coop built come back to me and I will give you some chickens. How exciting is that? She had several different kinds, but the one I found to be interesting was the Americana chicken that lays blue eggs. I really want to grow a garden, small at first. But I have lots of questions as to how to grow things in high altitude. I know it can be done here its just figuring everything out. So any suggestions on how to do that would be greatly appreciated. Well fellow farm girls, I am thrilled to be here. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your group. |

Welcome to the group! Glad you found us and it sounds like you are about to begin quite an adventure! There is always someone on here who can help with questions, so... keep posting and letting us know what you are up to! Are the Americana chickens related to the Auracana that also lay blue eggs? I have not had chickens for 20 years so alot has got past me in the chicken department! Jump right in , we're happy to have you!

Welcome, welcome!! Yep, there's something about MaryJane's book that makes you just have to get chickens and wall tents, and grow your own veggies and a milking cow and sew aprons and...........the list is endless! And the women here are right there to help with anything you can imagine. Glad you found us!

Hi lilpunkin! Very exciting time in your life . . . all those acres in such a beautiful state. I'd suggest getting in touch with your local university extension service or the Denver Botanical Garden to find out info on high altitude gardening. One of my favorite garden authors, Lauren Springer, gardens in Fort Collins, CO; previously she was in Denver and worked at the DBG there. She's got several books, but on perennials. Anyway, welcome in here; we all share and have lots of fun together. |

Welcome Punkin!!! How fun that you get to farm now!! What a fun adventure. You will love chickens..and yes..someone asked..the americanas are related to Araucanas. I think Lady Crystal (our chicken expert in my opinion) could explain that best. Anyway...how fun to have you here!!

Welcome to the forum, lilpunkin - I just love that name - and it's great that you get to farm! What a wonderful thing...I agree with Jenny - you'll love having chickens. The gals here will be a tremendous help - they have been to me - and you will know that you've found kindred spirits!

Welcome! I am so excited about your new farm. I have never been to Colorado, but it is on my list of places to go someday. Wait until you see how much fun it is to check this site day after day. The things you will learn! I read some of the threads all the way back to their beginning, and it is amazing just what people can teach one another. Enjoy! Sheryl-lyn |

Hey girls thank you so much for all your comments. I feel so welcome already! Luanne, I live in Westcliffe. So ai am not far from you at all! How cool is that?! One of the questions that was asked was about the property. It does have some pasture area but alot of its is mountain and trees. So I wont be leasing it out to anyone. Well girls, thank you again for making me feel so welcome. |
