I searching out "The Secret Garden" on the library site, I am finding so many versions. Which one do I want?

Do you mean the children's book by Frances Hodgson Burnett? If so I'm not aware of different versions... maybe they're just different copies from different years? I think as long as you get one that's unabridged you should be fine.

Are there gardening or other books by the same name?

There are shorter, easier to read kids books, and I want to read the original publication.

I don't know how your library categorizes things, but you could look for a listing that's for intermediate or young adult readers rather than easy readers or beginners. Or if they give number of pages, you want one that's about 200 pages. I believe the original publication date was 1911, if that helps. Also, Tasha Tudor may be listed as the illustrator. That's the full length book, not a picture book--Tudor did the cover and a few illustrations for the inside.

A lot of times the library record will state if it is abridged or unabridged, so look for that. The best thing to do is probably just go to the library and find the actual book - you'll likely be able to tell by looking at it whether it's abridged and for younger readers or unabridged. It will probably be in the juvenile section (possibly YA depending on how your library classifies it, but it'll most likely be with the kids' chapter books - they may even have copies in both sections). If worst comes to worst you could always just call or talk to a librarian and ask specifically for the unabridged version - they'll know which is which. Good luck - it's a great book and one of my favorites!
