I just started my badge on going green so I am getting rid of my non green cleaners and getting green alternatives. Today I wanted to get a few spots out on the rugs. I have a Spot Bot, but didn't think I would be able to use it again. I did a little search on the internet and I happened to find just such a recipe on this site: http://www.survivingthestores.com/homemade-carpet-cleaner-shampoo-recipe-non-toxic-machines.html
1 1/2 quarts of hot (NOT boiling) water 1/4 cup of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (it’s the regular hydrogen peroxide that you can get at any store) 1 1/2 Tablespoons of White Vinegar 1 1/2 Tablespoons of Dish Soap (we use Seventh Generation and it worked great) About 1/8 of a teaspoon of your favorite essential oil(s) – either just one or a combination. Vanilla and lavender would be a good one. I had ginger and lavender on hand so I used those, but I’m going to get vanilla for next time.
Mix all of the ingredients together (be sure to add the dish soap to the water and not the water to the dish soap) :) and pour into your carpet cleaning machine… then clean like the directions tell you to.
Thank you so much for posting this. I will have to gather ingredients for my spring carpet cleaning. I am praying that we can finally rip out all of the remaining carpet next spring, and put in wood flooring.
You are my hero! My two puke-machines....I mean kitties...have stained every thing and I was just regretting having to go and buy the stuff for the spotbot. It WAS my last chemical cleaning hold out! I am going to mix this up. right. now. Yessssss!
