Ok Girls I am looking for ladies who would like to participate in a hard times quilt project. The idea was started by my Grandma(not originally but in our family), it is a quilt made from scraps of ???? anything you have left!when times were hard Grandma would take the peices of material; left overs however large or small and lovingly sew them together to make a quilt. I have the begginings of her last quilt I think it will be fun to pass this around and have farmgirl sisters add to it. For every sister who participates a donation will be made to our local food bank to help people who are now having hard times. So lets Go girls!! YOU DO NOT have to be a quilter to join in the fun!!!

I'd be willing to join in.
My only concern is if we pass the quilt top around the shipping may get to be alittle high. I'd hate to have to hold onto it until my paycheck comes around.

Could we just mail in blocks & you'll add them?
What is the basic style of the quilt.
Alot of the hardship quilts where just strips or squares unless its like a crazy quilt. Is it hand sewn or was your grandmother using a machine?

The more I think about it the more I want to hold this quilt as I work on it...Iam get alittle nutty when it comes to quilts. :D

well the material is thin mostly, I am going to the post office today and I will check the options on standard rate post boxes and see if that would work, she did use a machine and some by hand it has some design to it but mostly just squares and triangles, I am not a quilter at all so I dont know if the pattern has a name or not but, I think it would be fun for each farmgirl to add her own peronal style to it, The other quilts my grandma made like this , had a lot more variety than this one(I guess because its only just about 6 or 8 squares across and down). I too have to wait for pay day to mail things and I dont think that is a problem, its just how life is now! :0) let me know if you want to do it and I will get the post rates today and post them later.

I'm not a quilter but I'd like to give this a try! You could also give everyone a size to follow and then everyone would send you the squares and you could sew them together and post pics, couldn't you? Might be cheaper shipping-wise? Either way, sounds like a great idea. :)

Oh, as long as we all understand that it may take awhile between working on the quilt & mailing it back out then Iam very much in!

If theres enough people it could take a few months to a year to get the top finished.

Either way, I'll sit aside a twenty to cover shipping. :)
