We have 2 topbar hives but our bees ran off. Since we've gone through 3 packages of bees in the past 2 years we've decided to just buy honey since no one wants to hang around. Anyway, we've been trying to decide what to do with the hives. Today, I've been painting them and will be using them to plant flowers in. I hope to finish painting and plant the flowers tomorrow --I'll post a pic.

I sure hope I don't have to resort to that with my beehives, but that is really an awesome idea!!

Yeah, someone else around here keeps bees (I've seen their hives a couple miles down the road) and we think they bait for bees and ours took it. Dang it. I did get the primer coat on and will get them painted up purdy this weekend and will post a couple of pics!

HAHA...you can see I'm not a professional but I had fun with it. Quite challenging to paint using stencils on an not flat surface!!! I think they turned out ok though. One I did with farm animals and critters on the end, the other has lizards on the end and bugs on the side. On the insides (facing towards the steps) I just did flowers.

Hey, that looks great!! You are going to have an awesome little garden there. Maybe you could plant some things for the bees!!
I know what you mean about the difficulty decorating the hives. I did some woodburning on the outside of our top bar hives, and I remember getting a real neck cramp from it!

Sorry to hear about your bees. Your recycled hives look great though.
