We haven't used scented candles nor air freshners in quite a while, but I still miss that nice fresh scent in the air. I know that baking soda is safe and use it whenever I vacuum. I was just wondering if anyone has ever made their own "safe" rug freshner.

Nancy, I have added lavender essential oil to BS for carpet freshener. It smells so good. But you could add whatever scent you want to it.

I just got some lemongrass essential oil to add to my homemade deodorant and now I love the fresh scent so much I'm using it for lots of other things, too. It is lemony, but not overwhelmingly so. I imagine it would blend nicely with baking soda for your purpose -- like lavender E.O., just a different fragrance. You'd only need to fluff in a few drops in a half-cup or so of the baking soda. I would put them in right before use -- and dab a little behind my ears :)

hi nancy not sure what type of vacuum you have but if this the one with bag you can use scented sachet packs in the bag..put it in the vacuum bag and when you vacuum the scent is released thru the air
it really makes the house smell nice for awhile ...i usually do it right before i have company
its light and fresh..but essentials are wonderful as well i put a few drops on a cotton ball
and swipe the light bulb

inch by inch we find our way

Nancy,
I have a lot of lavendar and I take the dried buds and sprinkle them on my carpet before I vacuum. It smells very subtle and nice. I have 4 old parmesan cheese containers full right now!
