well I tried the 1/2 borax one 1/2 baking soda mix. While it did clean it did leave a residue.

Now I'm tryring the liquid recipie I found (casitile soap, vinegar, water, lemon juice and essential oil). I'll let you all know how it turned out.

Dishwasher cleaner was the last thing I needed to go ecofriendly on.

:)

You can use a pack of unsweetned lemon/lime Koolaide to get rid of the residue. Put it in at the start of a load. The small packs.

Thanks!. I presume that you put it in with the dishwasher soap. Sorry coffee hasn't hit my brain cells yet, it's been a long day.

I had the residue problem too. Went back to comercial soap. I'm very interested in how the liquid soap turns out. Please let us know.

I pour about a cup of white vinegar in the bottom of my dishwasher prior to running it. Works like a charm.

I will try the cup of vinegar next.

I did put extra lemon juice (around 2 tblsp) and added vinegar to the rinse and I didn't put it on heated dry. I hand dried the dishes. There was very little residue after the wash.

Ok this is the last time I post about this (as you may be tired of hearing of dishwashing liquid).

Added 2 tblsp of homemade liquid dishwasher formula and 2/3 cup of white vinegar to the bottom of the diswasher before beginning the cycle and NO RESIDUE!

I use 1 part citric acid, 2 parts baking soda and 2 parts borax. Shake it up in a plastic container with lid, and use 1 T per load.

Use white vinegar in the rinse aid/

You can buy bulk citric acid at a reasonable price on-line. Make sure that it is food grade.
