Today, I was chatting with my best and wonderful friend about odd things we have outside. I have an old cast iron bath tub outside. We placed that heavy thing way in the back corner of the yard. It has been our worm bed for years. Any time we go fishing, we have free worms. Any one else have an old tub outside? Marly

Yep! I have one that I am planning to put some strawberry plants in (got them in a recycled metal goat feeder now) and we have used old bath tubs as long as I can remember for water troughs. When I was little I used them as my swimming pools!

Hoping to get an old cast iron beauty in my backyard so that I can do one of MaryJane's outdoor baths! Smiles,

One of our Precious Farm Sisters Darlene Riboldi has 3 or 4 Old bath tubs with the claw feet in her backyard Garden area. And she has painted them beautiful colors. One is red, one is pink and I'm not sure about the others. She fills them with water...so that you can sit out in them on a hot night in the summer and have a cool-down under the stars...or earlier if you so choose.
I love that idea!!! I am always teasing her that I want to come visit her in Kunkletown PA just so I can sit in her red bath tub. She is going through breast cancer treatments right now and so is rarely on the boards. If you think about it...say a little prayer for her.

There is one buried in a plum grove just up the hill from our back garden - nobody owns that particular section of land and I have designs on digging it up and using it myself - the neighbors used to run horses back there and used it as a watering trough but as they didn't own the parcel and the other neighbors complained they stopped. I would love to have an outdoor tub ala MaryJane!

Peggy Ann, I love the idea of the claw foot tubs out in the open; being one with nature. Love it! And- yes, I will say a prayer for Darlene. Amy Grace, I think you should dig that tub out of the plum grive and haul it to where you can do your thing with it. For some reason, every time I read your posts I smile. Thank you for that. Marly

Oh, I grew up with one of those tubs in my parents home..When we built our home we are in now, I found 2 at a junk yard, had them refinished and we use them on the inside!! One in my daughters bathroom and in ours...Always did love those tubs....Neat idea for the outside, though....Smiles,

Melanie: Let us know if you do do anything with the neighbors tub. I agree, that would be a fun project. Marly

I don't have a bath tub. But I do have a feed troph trofh, trogh... (well, how do you spell that anyway? Nothing looks right.) So I have herbs in it. It works great. But I have to keep fence wire over it so the darned ole chickens don't get in it.

In the bath tub I have outside, the raccoons eat all the worms. I have an armadillo living under the tub. I keep a piece of fence on top. Marly

My husband and a family friend were asked last fall to clear out a barn for a family that was going through forclosure. They brought home an old cast iron tub with a large crack in the bottom. They were going to haul it to the dump. I forced them to rescue it off the back of the truck and they put it in my side yard in front of our unsightly transformer box... I intend to fill it with soil and plant flowers in it this spring. I think that will be a welcome sight instead of that green box. :)

Yes, AlyssaMarie, I agree. Lots of colorful flowers would be nice. Marly

I can only hope to find a tub for the yard. I would probably paint it orange or yellow and use it like Darlene to keep cool in the summer. Best of luck to Darlene, she seems like such a wonderful person.
God bless,

Marly - just returned to this post - thank you for the kind words. And I have to say that my heart is warmed by the thought of an armadillo living under your tub:)

Thank you Amy Grace. The armadillo now has young ones. My outside cats are not happy about that. I think they think the baby armadillo's are kittens. So funny! Marly

Oh my gosh - how funny. I can see cats being concerned about baby armadillos -"what are those things?"

The baby armadillos have a hole under the tub. One of my cats will sit in the tub and jump out, like she is going to grab that armadillo. When the armadillo does come out, Pepper, the cat, runs. Marly
