My vet experience over the last decade has been limited to routine clinic spays and neuters and rabies vaccines. (Thank the Maker.)
I was lucky enough to find an area traveling veterinarian for my new dairy moo who's specialty is actually dairy cattle (with other farm animals as a side). I'm calling him out to give her a wellness check and set up a plan for her AI. Does anyone have an idea what I should expect to pay for either service? He's reputed to have low rates as he neither rents an office, nor employs a support staff.

My most favorite livestock vet , also works out of his truck/home and only employs a second pair of hands when he needs them. He charges a basic rate of $40 per hour, with a 2 hour min, plus materials, (i.e. vaccinations, wormers, PG tests etc), hes wonderful with all animals, he does rabies vacs for your dogs, at $6 a pop, when hes at your place anyway...I am sure prices in your area will differ from mine, but thats what I pay

That's good to hear... I kinda earmarked 400$ to get her into a "with calf" condition.

Sherry, I asume you meant to put a decimal point in there, so is it $40 or $400...

230 for a full physical exam, but worth the peace of mind I think. She is one fertile cow

My vet charges $1.88 per minute at the farm for time spent (exams, procedures, etc.). Any drugs or bloodwork are additional. With my vast brood, its still usually works out to be less than the average office call of $25-$30 per animal, which is what it would be per pet if I were take them to the clinic.

Jen, my vet came out to my house when my goats got into a grain bin I had sitting to close to their pen. They got the bloat and I was afraid they would die. He came out to my house to see them as I dont have a way to get them into see him. He charged me a 35.00 house call visit per goat, gave them three shots each, shoved mineral oil down their little gullets and the cost total was 125.00.I was so thankful that he saved Rufas and Becky, then saw what little he charged, and nearly cried.
